The University of Alabama in Huntsville has announced a partnership to advance nuclear thermal propulsion technology for deep space exploration. This initiative revives research into using nuclear reactors to heat propellant for rocket thrust. Current development efforts face technical hurdles regarding ground testing infrastructure and the management of radioactive materials during engine trials.
