Dominion keeps options open for North Anna new build

Dominion Energy has requested a 20-year renewal of the Early Site Permit for the North Anna nuclear station to preserve options for future capacity expansion. The utility also notified the Nuclear Regulatory Commission that it is deferring its existing combined construction and operating license for a third unit. This regulatory action maintains the site's suitability for either traditional or small modular reactor technology.

Dominion Energy is taking steps to preserve the Early Site Permit issued to its North Anna site in 2007. The Louisa County site is already home to two operating reactors. ;

Virginia Electric and Power Company (doing business as Dominion Energy Virginia) submitted its request to the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) on 14 July, seeking to renew the Early Site Permit for 20 years beyond its current expiry date of 27 November 2027 or for 20 years from the date of issuance, whichever is later. The NRC formally acknowledged receipt of the request on 28 July, and is now reviewing it ahead of accepting it for docketing.
