X-energy and SGL Carbon have entered a binding agreement to double the production capacity of NBG-18 nuclear-grade graphite. X-energy will provide up to $8 million in milestone-based payments to upgrade SGL facilities in France and the United States. This expansion supports the manufacturing of graphite components for Xe-100 reactors.

Nuclear-grade graphite serves as a neutron moderator and structural element in high-temperature gas-cooled reactors. By securing this supply chain, X-energy aims to support the deployment of up to eight reactors annually. This investment addresses the need for specialized materials required for advanced reactor designs and ensures long-term manufacturing capacity for the nuclear industry.
