this is one of the items i wuz spouting this weekend while "discussing" radiation with a orchestra musician ina bar.  he kept telling me tht radiatio caused cancer.  i replied with the standard percentile increase of incidence per dose.  he lit off.  i followed 'n passed him up in ascension.  what fun!   he left the joint in a snit, when i axed how many cancers he had in his mouth, what with all his dental exposure.  a grand time was had by all, 'n the barmaid gave me a black 'n tan on the house.  apparently i wuzn't the first patron he had spouted off on, simply the last.

3) Ionization Smoke detector in the home.

4) Living within 50 miles of a coal powered electrical generating plant.

5) Living within 50 miles of a nuclear powered electrical generating plant.

6) Nuclear power plant worker (average).

7) Radium dial alarm clock next to the bed.

8 ) Sleeping next to your spouse 8 hours a night.

9) X-ray technologists (average).

Excellent assuming you were listing them in desending order of exposure. Cigarettes do top the list and the rest though not in the exact order that I have are all within a position or two of mine. You clearly have a good grasp of relative exposures. Give yourself a silver star.

I know this is an old post. But I had to try the calculator any way. Over the last 30 years I have only about 8,000 mrem lifetime. Thanks to my doctors I now recieve 10,0229 mrem per year. And I even quit smoking.

According to the calculator, I will receive 632 mrem this year (non-occupationally).  Of course, the calculator does not take into account any traveling by car for extended stays in various parts of the country.  It does makes my 25+ Rem lifetime seem pretty good (only 25% more than my "natural background" dose for the same period).  Must've been them steam generator walls shielding me from all that nasty background radiation in the good old days (laughing).
