Mike Miles

We lost a good HP in may of this year 2002.
Mike Miles passed away.
For short time I new Mike he was a good friend a hard worker. He left his Wife Vicky.
Mike was working For Duratek for the last few years.
Mike was Buried in his home state of GA last week.
to his friends who new him and his wife I am sadden.
Vicky Take care your friend from the Fla. Job.

This is just so hard to believe...what happend? :'(  Mike and Vicky were at Brent's services just in December...less than 6 months ago.  What is happening here???  God Bless you Vicky and give you strength...You will need it.  Brent used to tell me "just keep putting one foot in front of the other and go on", so that's what I try to do everyday.

Haz-Mater:
I can't believe this has happened and if anyone knows what happened please keep us updated. Mike will be missed in this industry, he was a good person and HP.  I got started in the business as a deconner at Plant Hatch and was mainly stationed on the refuel floor.  In the 80's, Mike was an HP on the refuel floor, and we became good friends.  He asked me if I had ever thought of becoming an HP and I told him yes.  He said that if I wanted to, I could be his shadow this outage and he would show me the ropes of being an HP- so I did. Mike taught me alot of pertinent information about radiation safety and some rule-of-thumb techniques that would help me out in this business.  Everyone on the refuel floor, that outage, liked Mike and we had a nickname for him- m2(m squared) for his iniatals mm. Out of all the memories I remember about that outage, the one that stands out the most is the time Mike and I were sitting at the control point when this beautiful, innocent looking brunette walked in and told us that she was the contol point clerk for the refuel floor.  Mike looked at me and told me that he had met the woman and love of his dreams.  This woman was Vicky.  Since that outage I have left Hatch and haven't kept in touch with Mike or Vicky, but I will never forget that Mike is the main reason that I stayed in this business.  I also remember him and will continue to remember him everytime I use one of his rule-of-thumbs in radiation safety. Vicky may God bless you and give you the strength to get through the loss of a great person and an old friend.  If you ever need somone to talk to, drop me a line via e-mail.

My name is TJ Cook, I have worked with Mike for the past 5 years at the Gallaher Road Facility for Duratek. I appreciate whoever posted this it is a way to show the respect to fellow workers that they do not recieve sometimes in the work force.
I worked side by side with Miles for the past 5 years and it is hard when you have someone you can depend on for answers and general friendship to look over at the desk and that person is not there.
Miles was not just a friend but a mentor to me for the past 5 years, he guided me through jobs and assignments that were a challenge for us both. One thing I will always remember about Mike is no matter what even as a mentor and friend he still did not mind admitting when he was wrong and that is something that most people would never do.
And yes Miles still went by m2 , to his Wife Vicki whom I became very close friends I want you to know Miles will always be remembered. In this business as most people know when you move around constantly it is hard to find someone you can call a true friend and can depend on to cover your back , "Miles was one". he was a friend and mentor to a lot of HP techs at Duratek that knew if they had a question they could always call Miles and get an answer or direction without feeling belittled. That is a unique quailty in itself. So to all that knew Miles and he had mentored, I know you feel the same we lost a true friend and fellow HP.
Please keep Vicki in your prayers she will need them.
Again thank you to whoever done this, it has given me  a way to show my respects to Miles which I have had difficulty doing.

I too had the priviledge of working with Miles(Mike and Vicky). Just as TJ mentioned one could always count on Miles to have the answer to some off the wall head scratcher. He taught everyone that worked with him something they didn't know before they started. It will be impossible to forget about Miles and no one here is trying we remember and miss him daily. I guess the thing I remember most about Miles is that no matter if the topic was trucks,motorcycles,Health Physics,politics,religion it didn't matter he had an educated opinion on whatever you wanted to talk about and I really enjoyed those conversations we used to have. Thanks for the memories Miles and you will never be forgotten. Vicky we all love you and are praying for you. Chris
