Q Clearance

(1/1)

nukelvr:
Hey everyone,
I have just accepted a position with the DOE and I am going to be undergoing a security investigation for a Q clearance. I am currently employed by the DoD and hold a Confidential clearance. I am in a bit of a jam right now though, because when I filled out my SF-86 form for the DoD job I neglected to include an 'under the table' job that I worked at for about a year, when I was 19 to 20 (I am 25 now). The reason I didn't include this job was twofold; for one, it was under the table, and two, the owner of the place said he would never admit I worked there (for tax reasons).
I really want to be 100% truthful on my DOE SF-86 form, so do you think I should include this job in my work history, or just explain the situation to the investigator when I meet with him/her? Thanks a ton for any help you can provide!

nukelvr:
Just to elaborate, my main concern with putting the job on my DOE SF-86 is that they are going to take my old SF-86 and see that the job was not listed, and then suddenly it appeared now.

Carolina Jethro:
The worse thing to do is try to hide something. Go ahead and put it on application now and explain to investigator later if necessary. The number one reason clearances get rejected is for trying to cover something up.Good Luck!

nukelvr:
Thanks for the advise Carolina!
Do you think it will be a huge issue when they look at my old SF-85P and compare it to the
SF-86 I have to fill out now?  (I guess my prior form was an SF-85P, not an 86)

Thanks again!
