Gamma Dose Changes to Material

<< < (2/2)

darkmatter:

--- Quote ---blue topaz is a product of irridation as well as fancy diamond colors.  lots of gemstones are treated that way. the old blue topaz used to be radioactive because the rad techs didnt shield them from "trons" at the reactor.  now they are just blue.

--- End quote ---

The original green diamonds were surface colored only due to being immersed in radium salts which also made them radioactive. Now they gamma irrate them then heat treat for various times/tempertures to get the color they want. Natural blue topaz is very pale blue, they use Co 60 gammas to get that dark "london blue" color
