If anyone has lodging information for this facility, please post it here.

Some people stay 3.5 miles from site in a 2 bedroom apt. and pay $415/ month. It is very plain but quite and clean. 10 miles from there are the big complexes with places for $750-850. There is everything in between. There are techs at work that pay less than $400 for converted houses. I would suggest calling Brad (513)648-5358.

Nice area, 40 hrs paid sick time, 80 hrs vacation, matching 401K, soft ball, good insurance, decent pay. What more could a tech want.

It wouldn't be fair to rate it now since I worked there when it was a full production facility.  The site was a radiological nightmare.  I liked Cincinnati and the surrounding areas.
That was sixteen plus years ago so I don't know how things are now.

Been there.
Done that.
Got the T shirt to prove it.
Loved it.
Stayed for over 4 years.
People were great.
Area was awesome.
The only thing that could'a drug me away was a house gig....
Let's face facts.....it's a closure contract.
That was the only draw-back.

Was there for about 4 1/2 years. Mostly worked for D&D and it was great! Cincinnatti and surrounding areas are nice, plenty of places to go. But as we all know, sometimes you just got to move on.

Went there after the Navy (92-94)....loved it....loved the area. Worked for Rapid Ray then came back to Tennessee. Eventually found my way back (Oct 98-Apr 99), but, as someone said, it's a closure contract...all over but the singing. Kudos to those still there. I'm on the outside peeking in wondering what could've been, but I'm grateful for the opportunity the Lord gave me and the friends I still have there. It is an awesome place, and I am still friends with Marlin; knew him before he became site co-ordinator, and he'll always be a bud.

Been here for a few years now. It was a great place to work. Now it is going to the dogs.Flour and Mactec are out of control. Alot of things are being blown off just so the Flour managment can get their Big Bonus"s at anyone's expense. Mactec the constr. company"s managment, very very poor. Radcon dept. over looking alot of things to acommate Flour. Was some good times here, labors are great. If your not working here don't come, to many other safe places to work. >:( :P :-/ :-*

THE AREA IT SUCKS, TAXES TO HIGH,THE PEOPLE OTHER THAN ON SITE SUCK.CINNCINATI HAS A LOT TO OFFER, BUT NOT WORTH THE EXPENSE. TRAFFIC IS LIKE BEING IN NYC. IT SUCKS.THEN YOU HAVE THE CONTRAC. TECHS. THEM SELVES,ALOT OF GOOD 1'S STILL HERE,BUT THERE ARE A FEW HERE YOU NEED TO WATCH OUT FOR. THIS JOB WILL BE GREAT WHEN IT IS COMPLETE.AND NOTHING IS LEFT OF IT

:'( Pretty much provincial here - about 40 years behind the times, radiologically.  The sad thing is most of the mice don't know any better! And the local union pretty much runs things.  Fluour management sucks up to them quite regularly and with great vigor.

It has it's good points and it's bad!  Several old timers there, which allow you to vent towards the side of sanity!  Many of the old house RP staff are still maintaining their jobs on site, which is also a plus for the rest of the industry!  There are a lot of experts at this site, I know because they told me so!

Have you ever worked DOE!  I believe this is the site, where this statement was coined.  For you, who have never worked DOE, this is not a question, it's a statement, derogatory in nature!  Once a decission is made to proceed with a task, any input on your part, will meet with this statement.  Consider this an oral warning!

Hey, Salamandar, you hit it right on the nose!  Fertilizer and Zoo Monkey's, couldn't describe the place better myself!  I, for one, am over it!  I do almost as much in a week on Per Diem, than a fourty hour take home at that site!  Fernald has always been the lowest overall paying DOE site for techs and still is!  A forty hour, yearly wage, will make you about 38K, after taxes!  That equals about 5 months of outage work, with Per Diem!  It appears that we have a clue, do you?

1.  Free College degree all the way to PHD if you wanted. And they brought the classes to the site for your benefit.
2.  Excellent Medical Insurance at extremely low cost
3.  Excellent school system at Fairfield especially for the handicap.
4.  Started out making 32k a year base salary and ended up making 53k a year.
5.  Best of all - No more road life.

RAD-GHOST, you read my mind. Still, many good people, and when I was there, company sponsored after work activities ruled. They sponsored teams form softball to 8 ball. Don't know if they still do.

I was there from 1999-2003. Most of what everyone said was true. The DOE system is a cash cow just begging to be milked by Contract RCT's. The House people at Fernald get very good benefits. The Contract RCT's get treated pretty fairly well. The Union, Fluor, and DOE have this Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld connection that is predicated on that huge $250 million bonus in June 2006. If you are thinking about going to work there, look elsewhere. This cow is down to the bones, and doesn't have the longevity that most people think it does. As many have stated before me, the money is terrible. The surrounding area is nice, if you are a sports buff. It is also good for hunting, fishing, and outdoor activities, if that's your bag. Weather is shaky, at best. People are pretty laid back.

I went to Fernald back when there were three maybe four HPs there in 1991. Rapid Ray was there. I worked at the chemistry labs. It was boring and there were no procedures for anything. Like no procedures to free release clean material from the RCA.
If I would have only known! I could have retired there.
Sounds like not much has changed. The house techs were just as they sound today.
I remember taking all my material like exposure records. All they wanted was a twenty min. whole body count and my driver's license.
I couldn't take the boring job and out I went back into the world of nuke plants. I had sand in my shoes and I liked moving from place to place. It got to be old when the outages went from months to weeks. It was not worth me moving my motor home from place to place.
I've been home for three years and I don't miss anything out there except a lot of friends.
I would like to say hello to Roger Knight and Vicki.  Sorry to hear about Nancy.
I know there are a lot of the ole roadies working there. Hello to all.

Tri-County Mall near I-75 and I-275 is a great place to shop.
Miami Whitewater, Circling Hills, Grand Oak, and Pebble Creek are great golf courses within 20 minutes.
Argosy, Grand Victoria and Belterra casinos are across the border in Indiana.
Reds baseball, Bengals football, Cyclones and Mighty Ducks semi-pro hockey, Cincinnati, Dayton, Kentucky and Xavier college ballclubs.
Indianapolis, Lexington, Ky., Columbus, Oh., and Louisville are all less than 2 hours away.
Benihana's downtown and other great restaurants.
