NukeWorker Bobble Heads
« on: Nov 21, 2006, 10:16 »
I'm having some NukeWorker Bobble Heads made.

Attached is the mockup of the NukeWorker bobblehead.  If anyone has suggestions, now is the time to make them, before the 500 bobbleheads are created.

They have carved a prototype.  Attached pictures of them.  I need help figuring out what is wrong, and what is right, so I can have them change it.  PLEASE look at all the pictures and help me tell the guy what to fix.

I like it, looks good to me ;D

Just to be the devil's advocate:

If you are trying to achieve the cartoon aspect of your logo, the proportions are off. For an example, the head is larger and the body is smaller and more detailed on the bobble-head then screen logo. You lose the bubble suit look with the detailed body.

If you don't mind a little poetic license with the shape, then it is a nifty product and will probably be accepted well by a waiting market. You might try applying some color to the model and see what it looks like. Perhaps with a removal acrylic in case you change your mind along the way.

Have fun!

mike,
the innocence of the logo model is not captured in the carving...the position of the right hand , the view from behind, the facial attractiveness...all is lost in the transition from the logo model to the carving...

if it were not for the now legendary logo, i would suggest a gender switch...especially the eyes...

This is what I sent to the bobble head guy:

Quote
I have some feedback for you on the bobble head.

Our logo is a cartoon-ish character.  The bobble head you sent me is a mixture of cartoon-ish body and realistic caricature head.

I don’t have a problem with the face being realistic instead of cartoon-ish.  However, I think we should add a few more details to the rest of the character to balance out the detail in the face.

Attached to this email is a picture of a 55 gal drum, the ‘can’ in the NukeWorkers hand is supposed to symbolize one of these drums, so if we could make it look more like the drum in the picture, I would appreciate it.

The body is too skinny, it does not match the artist rendering that you send me.  Everyone looks short and fat with a little head inside a hazmat suit (That’s what the NukeWorker guy is wearing).  I have attached a few pictures of real people in haz-mat suits to give the artist a little something more to work from.

The other option is to actually make the bobble head look like our logo/mascot (Just like in your original artist rendering), which that bobble head clearly does not.

the right hand and arm, no matter what angle, look like Reference Man has just given an FFd sample, now contained in the trefoil beaker ;)

but in either case, fixed or not, I like the bobbles, and look forward to buying some...

Point to Honeycomb on the headsize needing to be big. A bobblehead expert I'm not. Life is really good when the hot topic is bobbleheadium. Looks good Mike!

I sent the directions I quoted above to the bobble head people, and thise was their interpretation of what I said:

Quote

== Nukeworker Bobblehead Changes ==
-reduce 'head' inside helmet
-face is smaller
-increase width and depth of body ( fatter )
-add creases to suit ( body )
-use new barrel in hand

Do you think that will get us closer to where we should be? Or make it worse?

Much closer, should be good to go after those changes, I'd think.

Karma to ya for enduring our critiques!

He sent me this picture in responce to my first list of change requests.

I've asked that he alter the hoods to show more face, round the top of the bubble hood and bring the front opening of the bubble hood down further, make the opening of the inner hood more oval, and to put a meter in his other hand.

I doubt we're going to get that level of detail...it's a bobblehead , not a Airfix 1/35 soldier....

At the risk of negative karma, do we have to have an RP Meter????

Considering that 69% of the users of this site are not in Health Physics and Radiation Protection, why narrow your market for the Bobble Heads by placing a meter in his hand.

Just a thought.   :-X

No bad karma for a good observation.

What would you suggest he do with the other hand?

Also, if we are going to get pickey, 69% of the users probably don't carry around a can of nuclear material either.

Personally, I liked your original sketch that did not have anything in the other hand.

I like the can of nuclear material in the left hand of the bobblehead even though I have never had to move any from point A to point B.   ;D
