7/10 Google Page Rank
« on: Nov 23, 2006, 11:29 »
I just noticed that we now rank 7/10 in google's page rank.

To put it in perspective:

The average Page Rank is 3/10.

Absolute, Disneyworld, and HGTV rank 6/10.

Only 1,086 other sites, including Amazon.com, FoxSports, IBM, MTV, MySpace, NASCAR, Nike, Overstock and Playboy also rank 7/10.

Only 468 sites, including ABC, ESPN, Hotmail, and Wikipedia rank 8/10.

Only 122 sites, including AOL, Ebay, MSN, and Yahoo rank 9/10.

Only 26 sites, including Apple, Google, Microsoft, and NASA rank 10/10

Page ranking is an indication of how well Mike has laid out the site. There are a lot of hits and links, but the layout is the deciding factor in improving the Google page rank.

What can we do?

We can put a Nukeworker link from the other sites where we hang out. On those other sites, there is usually a line for "Website". www.nukeworker.com is a good answer for that. There is also typically a thread along the lines of, "Other websites I frequent". More valid links on the Internet to the homepage is crucial to the page rank. Linking to an internal page is less useful, but should be done for those situations where only a particular part of Nukeworker is considered (e.g. pictures or study guides).

When we are discussing news-worthy events, include a link to the source. Sites that maintain the data are preferred, since dead links aren't worth much. For example, www.al.com doesn't keep the information on file as long as www.myway.com
But posting a link is better than not posting a link.

Very impressive stats, Mike.

Gets kind of confusing looking at some of the charts. Perhaps the trending services could put a note over each graph that says "Higher is better" or "lower is better" like the INPO numbers we look at.  ;D ;D ;D

One of these days I will figure out exactly what a PageRank is, though the disclaimers state I will never figure out exactly how Google uses it in their calculations for returning hits. Keep up the good work.

The best way to get a high page rank is to have thousands of sites that have a high page rank to your site, using your key words.

i.e "Nuclear jobs and resumes on NukeWorker.com" linked to us from 9 thousand sites that all rank 9/10 would do wonders for us, lol.  Actualy, we are doing very well.  Our OSHA/hazwoper page ranks #2 behind the OSHA.gov site.  We rank #1 for 'nuclear jobs, nuclear resumes, and nuclear career'.  And #1 for NRRPT exam & NRRPT practice test.  And many many more.
