I might add that when I left one sub the chiefs and some officers gathered in crews mess to say goodbye. When I was asked to say something, I could not think of anything, so I mooned them. Surprisingly the XO had a sense of humor and said he missed the opportunity to use the plaque he was presenting appropriately. This was the XO whose door I stole mid-winter with the weapons hatch just above pouring cold air into his stateroom. He was not happy and made the watch section clean the boat until it was found. If he knew he did not let on.
