Title: Japan's Atomic Bomb
Post by: Marlin on Aug 17, 2005, 02:25
The History channel has aired a program named "Japan's Atomic Bomb". It is debatable as to how close they were to making this a reality but the effort to achieve it was real. The links below provide information on the Japanese nuclear program, the Wikipedia site includes a discussion on the validity of the potential for a submarine attack on an American harbor, just click the discussion tab.

I could not find a date for a future airing but the DVD is for sale (of course).

..gee, i sure don't. the test was done in New Mexico, wasn't it?
i thought the ones in Japan were the real deals. a lot of people have wrung their hands and bemoaned the fact that we used those awful devices on those poor beaten people, but let's not forget who started it and what the official Japanese policy on war, surrender and mercy were.

I am sure all those soldiers and saliors on wake island ,philipphines in bataan and corrigidor, and pearl harbor that were killed or tortured are crying boo hoo for the poor japs that got nuked.
The jap army were animals not humans and they deserved it 10 fold more.
It may have save more than 100,000 of our soldiers lives by not envading japan in operation olympic.

Hey Radbastard, whats up? I was watching the military channel, and they were saying that fat man, little boy saved the lives of as least 1,000,000 Americans. That’s the number casualties that were predicted if they had to invade the Japanese homeland. Either way we saved a lot of lives by dropping the big ones!!

As a history buff and pro nukie... I have torn feelings about the use of nuclear weapons.  I slept with them while in the navy, and support their use ads a deterrent.  But the use of these devices were a necessary evil.  While I believe that they saved lives, they also moved the human animal into a new age of destruction.

why can't we all just get along??????? ::)

Out here in Fat Man Land, the natives are proud of their part in defeating the aminalistic imperial army.  In fact, the High Schools mascot is a mushroom cloud (team name: BOMERS).  Liberal transplants have tried time and time again to do away with the name and mascot, to no avail.  How soon people forget.  Maybe instead of made in America, tested in japan, Made In America, Imported To japan.  And perhaps, send the bleeding liberals to the middle east to see first hand what life would have been like after japan won the war!

My policy is, we should use them on an enemy every fifty years just to show we still have the balls. What is the use in having them, if you are too afraid to use them?

This is beginning to drift of topic rapidly. Please return to the topic, or move this discussion to PolySci. Maybe a thread such as "Were we right to use the Bomb?" would be a good thread to start in that forum. This is what this is turning into ;)

I think Teddy said it best..."Speak softly , but carry a BIG STICK"

I would rather solve our problems (international - global) than use nukes to irradicate them.   Granted, we have come close to needing the Big Ones, but we can accomplish almost the same with the newer big (non-nuke) bombs.   I'd rather have dirt and debris floating about that did not sport half lives.
