Title: Steam Generator Blowdown Resin (A classification and shipping based topic)
Post by: Nuke Insurer on Oct 02, 2012, 11:27
All,

What is the classification of Steam Generator blowdown resin when it is being prepped for shipment? How is stored for shipment and why is that method chosen? 10 CFR 61.55(a)(4) and (6) pretty much ensure it should be an A Class waste stream. Is there anytime that it wouldn't be classified as a waste stream? Why?

Also, Why are some sites shipping the resin in a B25 box with 4 clips while others choose drums and even others choose a small liner? What is the determining factor for this decision? And does a B25 box really meet the requirements  of 10 CFR 61.56( 8 )(b)? Especially if there is standing water in the resin during shipment?
