Hey guys I am from NC and am interested in outage work. I was just wanting to ask on how I can go about finding work? Is there certain websites I should be looking on? Thanks!

Outage work doing what? Do you have a skill / trade?
At the top of the nukeworker page is a tab - Jobs - try looking there.

Apparently, there are old guys still trying to figure out outage work. "JOBS" on the menu at the top is a good place to start. This should give you a link to employers. There are a lot of jobs that you need some experience to be eligible. There are jobs that you need to be a union member for eligibility. And then there are jobs that just require a live human like firewatches, escorts, etc. Call a few numbers, contact a union hall. Don't be afraid to ask questions, you may find someone who is very helpful, and don't be discouraged by the ones that aren't - they have jobs to do and may not have the time to talk. Take what you can just to get your foot in the door. Those on the outside don't understand power plants, so you have to start somewhere.

I was about to post that I have been doing this for 43 years and I am still trying to figure it out... or at least trying to re-figure it out. Things have changed a lot in the past few years.

I am a really old guy, even older than RD and more years in the field too. Anyway, first and foremost what are you qualified to perform (i.e., craftsman, engineer, Radcon/RP, laborer, whatever)? Like they said, look at the tabs on this website. Figure out what you think you are, call the employers, but don't bulls--t your information. Truthfulness is timely in our business. If your not sure come back to the website and ask, some one will surely (not Shirley) tell you what they think. Remember there are other job websites out there that court themselves to nuclear outage related jobs so don't be afraid to look.

This May I will be finishing an Associates in Nuclear Technology. I interned at McGuire Nuclear Station in Operations last Summer.

whale, ops isn't much inn demand during outage, unless yore a house operator. yew may find one of the big contractors, d&z oar bhi two higher ewe as a jr rp tech, maybe a shielding specialist. ya cood try sum of the major vendors like ge n westinghouse for support engineering, butt you batter no sum won.

That's about like a Solid Waste Specialist. :)
I agree everyone has to start somewhere, but there is no need to sugar coat it for a new guy just because that's what upper management tries to call that job.

Hey!!! Hey!!! Careful with that Waste Specialist slander on many DOE sub-contracts that is a key position presented on the RFP and makes more than most others on the job site. It has been very very good to me.

Actually I saw a couple jobs recently for a "shielding specialist" they wanted someone who had solely dealt with or built radiation shielding. I have no idea who this person would be to just specialize in shielding but maybe there is someone.

Most of the big companies that design and build power plants, medical systems, or industrial radiation usage have these people on staff and there are some free lancers that support projects. This is part of the problem answering the OP because he is not familiar with titles and job function and the titles can be confusing to a newcomer.

I might add that we have may confused the OP by going into a broad spectrum of nuclear industries maybe current common entry level staff augmentation titles and responsibilities would be helpful. Foreign material exclusion, tool crib, and fire watch may be a toe in the door.

if the OP is in a collegiate program (e.g. CFCC) and interning at Duke, the OP is coming to an internet site for insight and yet I would expect that between the lead instructors at CFCC (or someplace akin to CFCC) and the contacts the OP made while interning at Duke should be sufficient to boost the OP's post graduation employment networking,...

For the most part agree but he is asking about outage work. Not much for entry level operators.

Look up Granite Services out of Wilmington. I am not recommending them, but they should be able to put you to work at outages if that is really what you want.

I recommend they call D&Z or one of the big ones who staff a lot of the entry level type positions. Without a specific specialty and only an intern background things could be tough.

I don't believe any Duke plant has advertised for Operations since basically all of them did late 2015, except Brunswick, so that might explain why the OP hasn't gotten an OPS job if this internship was last summer. I think D&Z has all the Duke sites now (people who know, please feel free to confirm or correct) so that might be who to talk to for other work as the "Master Chief" ;) says.
