OK, we all have lives outside of work... at least I hope we do.
So what do you do? Family stuff? Solo stuff? Volunteer at the soup kitchen?
A lot of the discussion here is about work, let's talk the rest of our lives - the stuff we do that makes up for the bad day, the plastics, the cavity decon...
What brought this on? Well, I just spent a weekend with my son's Cub Scout Pack - camping. First time for many of these boys. First time this Pack has camped in over 5 years. I've never done it under Scout rules, so it was a big jump for me too. Getting outdoors, fishing, hiking, cooking over a fire, telling stories, singing songs.... pretty cool. Even though I had a lot to do (along with many other parents) to get it together, the kids had a ball. We even made the Boy Scouts jealous (we launched Estes solid fuel rockets).
So... what do you do when you aren't a nukeworker? :) (yeah, those of you that know me from days of old are shaking your heads - I know... I know... :o )

I have a couple of horses, a bunch of chickens, on what is quickly becoming a mini farm and am very active with the United States Submarine Veterans.

Parties,...
Yup, pretty much,...
Birthday parties; 7 kids, 3 grandchildren, unending numbers of in-laws, nephews, nieces, friends, et al,...
If someone within our 3 sigma circle has a birthday coming up odds are 50-50 my better half will be in the thick of planning, cooking, buying, surprising, and/or traveling to it,...
Which gets me caught up in the slipstream of the whole deal,....
Two weekends ago my oldest daughter did the whole kit and kaboodle for my grandson who happens to be her son,...
I and my better half had to,.........................do nothing,...almost, G'ma still cooked up a crockpot or two of her trade secrets,...
But,...at the party itself, all we had to do was show up, be seated and enjoy the day,....
It was grand to just sit and enjoy my grandson while the younger generation stepped and fetched all afternoon long,....
Simply grand,....
I even had time to dream about my next toy on the crackberry,....

I have a 3yr old boy, and a 7 yr old girl. I swim in the pool with them in the summer. Ride 4-wheelers with them. Have tickle fights with them. Take them to the park. Read to them. And occasionally take the wife out to dinner. My secret guilty pleasure is Everquest2.

I'm in prototype, enough said.
As soon as I qualify and get a leave chit routed, I'm going to travel to NC and see my son for the first time since Thanksgiving. Until that time comes, I'm busting my hump to make it all happen.
When I had the time, I was always big into working on cars and trucks, deer hunting, spending time with my son and dog, and I also used to keep saltwater reef tanks. Hopefully, I can get back into all of those at some point.

I am active watching my daughter do Gymnastics (16 hrs/week), I am active in church, I volunteer at a local elementary school with an afterschool program to help keep kids out of gangs, I ride my Harley and I collect and enjoy vintage stereo equipment (1960's-early 1980's). As you can see, I'm kind of lazy........

There are no Salamanders flying (wood wing concerns) but a nicely restored 162 in Chino, CA!

There are some flying mostly-stock 262's in Washington, including rental rides on the trainer

Hmmm... It's just my wife and I now that our son's are grown and doing well. I love to cook and I'm learning the art of Charcuterie.
We like to explore various parks or walk around town in Memphis. Of course we try different restaurants while we're doing this. I read quite a bit in my off time too.
Soon it will be Wilmington, NC instead of Memphis since I accepted a job with GE there.
Being on the ocean will no doubt get me back to fishing and renew my interest in photography.

I read, go to movies, travel, spend a lot of time with my family.

Hey HouseDad...thanks for a great new topic! :)
I guess my one constant is travel...be it domestic or international, I love exploring a new place. Maybe that's why I loved being a rent-a-tech...
Things that regularly give me entertainment, although I'm not religious about any of them: Sea Kayaks... Books (Fiction & Travelogue)... Hiking... Playing Cards and Board Games... Prowling Thrift Stores, Yard Sales, and Antique Stores...
Recently, I've been doing a lot of mountain biking, since I'm in an area where it makes sense...
:)
PS...I still think plastics & cavity decon make it a GOOD day! ;)
modified to add collecting

I contribute to global warming.... dirt bikes, quads, boat, jetskiis, Side-x-side, snowmobiles, jeep.... I try to spend as much time in the outdoors with the family as possible..but, not having much luck these days.... only home 22 days last year and 0 this year so far...
It's funny, I liked rent-a-teching because I had so much time off, but, somewhere in the last
5 years it has not happened....

Go Smokies [dowave] They are a Cubs farm team which makes them all the better for me.

I think the Smokies play out of Sevierville.

Kodak, but yes the Pigeon Forge/Sevierville area. The stadium is at exit 407 I-40, right across from the Bass Pro shop.

I have been spending as much time as I can in a small fishing village in Sonora, Mexico.
Have been here most of 3 years. I help support several families and am involved with the local folks. There is much to be done here, most folks if they are lucky to have a job make $6k a year.
I hike the hills and desert, go to the beach every day with a chair, cooler and book. Sometimes I even open the book.
I have my career in the HP/RCT world to thank for this.
-
Camping, motorcycling, riding ATV's. And mostly like the casinos!
-
Backpacking, ATVing, guns, and gambling.
I also enjoy home theater.

GLW & Hydro Dave are too advanced for me , airplanes are bad enough I cannot imagine supporting a jet habit. I just get to fly and maintain my 1951 DeHavilland DHC-1 and my 1946 Globe Swift. Also I spend as much time as I can with my wife now that the kids are gone. Then there is golf, tennis, running and in my spare time I work 2-3 outages a year .
Happy Summer!!!!!!
-
I haven't seen my wife or my Triumph Tiger in nine months. It's time to go for a long ride before the next outage season, since I don't have a Globe Swift to fly.

.... airplanes are bad enough I cannot imagine supporting a jet habit......
I can't either,.....yet,....
The feature on the Cirrus I am most impressed with is the CAPS BRS,...
It's a dream,.... 8)

Surf casting, golf, sitting on the beach with a good book, and every weekend in Nov /Dec chasing pheasants with the dog.If I could get the wife a good job where I want to retire i'd have a lot more time to do this.I've been sending her resume out alot.

I have three girls in summer ball (one is in T-Ball). My son does not play yet since he is only three years old. So, if you have kids, you have a pretty good idea what I spend my time away from work doing.
-
I like to play golf and visit with family... but right now I am building a house so it sucks up every spare minute of time (and some minutes that are not so spare.)
I hope to have a life again when it is finished.

Now I'm hungry.

I loaf at the cottage as much as possible. Fish, boat, eat, fish some more, build a fire, toast marshmallows....
-
I work and or go to the Drag Strip ;D, cut grass a lot(4.5 acres) >:(, and sit at my computer ;). Play with the Grands in between. :)
