Title: Taking NUF in 10 days help
Post by: Blondestone on Sep 11, 2014, 08:49
I am scheduled to take the NUF in 10 days.
I am inquiring for some advice.
I have been studying the new NUF cram book & taking practice tests on nukeworker (currently getting 70's sometimes 80's) I know I need to be in the 90-100 range to be safer, still working toward that.
Wanted to know if there are other resources available such as a class etc, or if there are any other suggestions.

Thanks so much

Cross reference the DOE study guide.

it is objective based. should help you organize. if you can answer the objectives. you should be able to pass.

I have been studying the new NUF cram book & taking practice tests on nukeworker (currently getting 70's sometimes 80's) I know I need to be in the 90-100 range to be safer, still working toward that.

There are a few other resources.  One is the Full NUF study guide.
You can download it for free here: http://www.nukeworker.com/study/hp/neu/index.shtml
Or you can get the paperback version here: https://www.createspace.com/4947511
Or you can get the kindle version here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MNK7CNS/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00MNK7CNS&linkCode=as2&tag=nukeworkercom-20&linkId=NJJQBTV4PBMK5WU2

That plus what you are already doing is the key to the NUF.  MEMORIZE everything in the NUF Cram notes (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1500638889/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=1500638889&linkCode=as2&tag=nukeworkercom-20&linkId=W7FNY25H2YBMTPFG).  And get 100% on the free practice test (http://www.nukeworker.com/quiz/quiz_info.php?quiz_id=15).

Note which questions you are not getting correct, and study those sections harder.  We even have quizzes for each of the sections, so you can focus just on them: http://www.nukeworker.com/quiz/

Most people have trouble with the instrument section (RP-3 Radiation Detection and Instrumentation), know it backwards and forwards.  Instruments are 28% of your score.
RP-2 Radiation and Contamination is another 22%, and people have trouble with that chapter as well  Especially which nuclides are where when.
RP-4 Radiation Protection is 16%, most people don't have any trouble with it.
RP-5 Survey Techniques and Emergency Considerations is 22%, and again most people don't have trouble with it.

Those 4 chapters are 88% of your score.  Again, the NUF cram notes is just what you need to know to pass the test, and the full NUF study guide gives you more information, but not more of whats on the test.

I would avoid Smart People's suggestion if you only have 10 days to prepare to pass the test.  However, if you want to get a great understanding of the material, and why it is what it is, then the DOE material is some of the best study material in existence.

I made those study guides a little over 7 years ago, they are a bit outdated for the current material.  On a side note, I've seen people steal that information and pass it off as their own.  It makes me sad that they couldn't give credit where credit is due.  That material took me a lot of time to create.  Its some of the information friends give to friends (which is cool if they credited the source), and is considered some of the best free study material available. -- Of course, its garbage compared to the current RP cram notes and NUF cram notes.
