Rule of thumb: If you are a Rad Tech and you are in an RCA where there is even the potential for work to be going on, you should have a meter with you. It's kinda like asking a cop when he needs to have his gun on during the work day. If you are in the area, anyone there could look to you for direction/info of a radiological nature.

Maybe I'm not fully understanding the question. Are you asking if you should show up at a job site with your own meter or just show up for job coverage with the correct site supplied meter? :-/

having pondered this over the past day or so, i feel i should offer an alternative to my previous post... not that there was anything wrong with that post, but i gotz alla deez voices..... anyway:  you should always take a meter with you when you are going on a job where the majority of the crew is bigger, uglier, 'n more retarded than yinze are; 'cause properly applied, meters make great impressions.

I like to carry 2 meters that way you can take a 2 meter reading ;D  also like an RO-2 and tellywacker 8) That way you only have to be within 12 ft. of that dumbs__t to get his attention [smiley=deal.gif]

(A)Its not the meter, its how you hold it.
(B)Its not the size of the meter, its the size of the batteries.
(C)Its not the size of the probe, its how far you can extend it.
and...
(D) Its not the type, its a....a....a....a yuck, how many scales it has.

a) it's not how you hold your meter but where you point it
b)it's not the size of the batteries, but their discharge rate.
c)it's not how far your probe extends, but it's sensitivity.
d)it's not the number of scales, it's whether it is digital or analog.
