Knoxville Sentinel said last week, 80 layoffs in Oak Ridge. With then aquiring Duratek, Manufacturing Sciences, British Nuclear, they are consolidating duplicate work like finance admin HR, Upper management, does not seem to be hurting HP much.
-
Of course they are not saying they are bringing their own homeboys in!! 8)
-
well they lost LANL so those bodies have to go sumwhere
-
I was just wondering if anyone has worked for Scientech. Any and all information is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
-
what ddo you need to know
-
Scientech is now Energy Solutions. At least their D&D portion. Best people in the world.
-
Duratek bear creek has laid off several HP's and Management.
-
EnergySolutions is owned by a private equity group led by Lindsay Goldberg & Bessemer, Peterson Partners and Creamer Investments. It was created earlier this year to accommodate the merger of:
Envirocare of Utah;
BNG America;
the D&D division of Scientech; and
Duratek
With the merger of several companies, you would think that the benefits would imporve. As a matter of fact, Steve Creamer told those assembled at Bear Creek that their benefits would not decrease. The new insurance plan sure says otherwise.
Good luck!

As time has passed, so has the concerns of down-sizing and a minimalistic management style. They've added several more companies, bought the naming rights to the former Delta Center in Salt Lake City and have offered every plant in the United States Life of Plant pricing, so that utilities can acurately plan for rad waste costs from new build to decommisioning.
Energy Solutions has the GNEP contract that takes old Russian warheads and will make nuclear fuel. They will also be producing and servicing nuclear fuel from cradle to grave in addition to their current services including decommisioning, waste processing and disposal.
Energy Solutions is poised to grow with the industry.

Rumor has it Energy Solutions has a soil job in Louisiana. Can anyone shed some light on this? The NORM industry down here has normally been run by local companys. Have the big guns moved in?
-
I want to find out more about the Zion decomissioning project. Rumor has it that it will start this summer but there is little to no information about Zion on their web site. Who do I contact? When does it start? Are they hiring HP Techs?
-
If you keep an eye on EnergySolutions web site http://www.energysolutions.com/?id=OTgw you will notice that the following positions have been offered:
(4) positions currently for the dry fuel storage process
Regulatory Affairs Manager
QA Manager
and of course, the Superstar Rad Engineer through Denuke
They are in the planning phase right now, and techs working there this summer would be a stretch. Next spring is more realistic.
-
I would think they will sub contract most of the work except for a few of their permanent people.

EnergySolutions Receives Private Letter Ruling Clearing Key Tax Issue for Zion Decommissioning
Tuesday July 22, 5:00 pm ET
SALT LAKE CITY, UT--(MARKET WIRE)--Jul 22, 2008 -- EnergySolutions, Inc. (NYSE:ES - News) announced today that it has received a favorable Private Letter Ruling from the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS) concerning tax treatment of decommissioning funds related to the company's Zion Nuclear Power Station project.
The IRS ruling concluded that the structure of the EnergySolutions project will allow the company to assume control of decommissioning funds without having to recognize gains or losses at the time of transfer.
In December 2007, EnergySolutions signed an agreement with Exelon Corporation to accelerate the decommissioning and environmental restoration of Exelon's Zion Nuclear Power Station site located in Zion, Illinois. The project employs a license stewardship strategy whereby EnergySolutions will conduct the decommissioning and site restoration work as both owner and licensee of the power station. Following completion of the project, the Zion property will be returned to Exelon.
EnergySolutions requested a Private Letter Ruling from the IRS to confirm that the transfer of assets from Exelon to EnergySolutions, including funds that have been set aside to pay for decommissioning activities, would not trigger adverse tax consequences. The Private Letter Ruling issued by IRS confirmed that the transfer will not trigger capital gains or other income tax events.
"The IRS ruling represents a significant milestone in the development of our license stewardship strategy," said Steve Creamer, EnergySolutions CEO and Chairman. "We are pleased that the Zion decommissioning project continues its orderly progress toward start-up."
Prior to commencing decommissioning operations, EnergySolutions must receive license transfer approval from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
EnergySolutions offers customers a full range of integrated services and solutions, including nuclear operations, characterization, decommissioning, decontamination, site closure, transportation, nuclear materials management, processing, recycling, and disposition of nuclear waste, and research and engineering services across the nuclear fuel cycle.

Heard Energy Solutions is doing creative accounting with the house technicians in their Commercial Services Division. These guys have been with the company since it was SEG in the early days. In order to make room for new contract techs they have moved ANSI technicians to LATA/Parallex at Portsmouth to be absorbed into the DOE world. Heard it happened so fast the techs were in Portsmouth before the door closed behind them.

Energy Solutions has for several years has been doing things that are now going to put people in jail.
I worked for them when the stock went public. I just got a notice from a lawyer that there is a class action suit against them for the big wigs taking the money and running.
This has been known among the employees for a long time. Even when things were reported, even to the DOE, everything was covered up.
BUT, things came to ahead when the manager and construction manager were sent packing and escorted off site. This was at the MOAB site.
The manager has had a history of dishonest things, but the management covered it up as long as they could. The construction manager, daily did things that would shut a site down.
The problem was that that the DOE people on site were afraid to step up because the head DOE guy in Grand Junction had the people so afraid of him that they covered up many PAAA violations and were afraid of getting fired.
The supervisor of RCT said he would do what he knew was wrong to keep his job. This is funny because the new supervisor was fired from almost every job he had for being incompetant. But he was a friend of the manager that was kicked out, and promised the job as long as he did what he was told. After he said that, he was promoted to supervisor by the manager that was fired, again for criminal actions.
It just goes to show that people will put up with almost anything to keep a paycheck

I had a very good experience with ES this summer, everyone I worked with was very professional and easy to work.
-
I currently am running a job for ES near Toledo.
My experiences are scattered with them.
Getting paid has been a hassle. This may be because I am contracted through Parallax to Energy Solutions. I get my money, but it has been easier to do a root canal than get my checks some weeks.
If you get a nice cushy job in the Tennessee office, life is good.
I bought their stock during the IPO and it has dropped from $23.00 to under $9.00 a share. If you read the previous posts in this thread, you can understand that the ES upper crust has been less than honest with all the stocks and cash.
They can be a great company to work for because they are the mighty giant in the carnival. The contracts are plentiful and the anmount of work is endless. Don't plan on retiring with their 401k anytime soon though.
