Title: Hi, need a quick favor for a former submariner…
Post by: Cameraman on Mar 29, 2024, 09:22
Hi, new here on this page…
I served in Subs while Navy, but I got out 37 years ago and worked in a completely non-related field since then…

I am looking for a .txt or word file that details the script that the Chief of the Watch follows in dive/surface operations, this is needed for a movie script I will be co-producing and helping to write…

I used to remember all of it, but 37 years later much of it has fallen down the memory hole

Any kind soul still active? Or less time since separation than I have that could type out and e-mail it to me, or point me to a good a good quality audio link?

Thanks,
DRosner@aol.com (former MMN3)

I am a member of the United States Submarine Veterans. I put out a call to the members in my local chapter for an answer.

Isn't that confidential info?

It is something that is done with uncleared visitors on board so I would think not.

I probably should have given a little more of an explanation. Much of a submarine is not classified. We had frequent visitors and even did "Tiger Cruises" where we took family out for a day to experience diving and "angles and dangles". We rigged the boat for visitors covering some gages and panels with snap on covers. I imagine that they do it now just by turning off monitors. There was little or no electronics on board and none in the engineering spaces as Rickover did not think it had enough run time to prove reliability (70s). Reporters and other uncleared guests also had access to most of the boat excluding the engineering spaces.

Thank you for the info.  As I never served, I was unaware.
