Title: NUPOC Phone Interview Questions
Post by: nukehopeful16 on Jan 13, 2015, 12:24
My application has recently been accepted as an instructor in the NUPOC program. My question is, I see a lot of information on the type of questions they will ask while in DC but my recruiter told me first I have to get through a phone interview. I was wondering if it will be the same type of questions for that interview or if the questions will be more geared to just finding out more about me.
Thank you.

Why don't you pick up the phone or login to the interwebs and ask your recruiter?

They will be similar style questions, focusing mostly on calculus and physics for the phone tech interview.

The interview in DC can also go into any course on your transcripts.

You should also be prepared to respond to "teach me something" as this will come up at some point in DC.

It's worth noting that "teach me something" means "pick whatever reasonably complex technical topic you want and explain it to me." It doesn't mean "stutter aimlessly because you're trying to think of something that you think I don't know."

I don't know anyone who asked an applicant to do this.

I work with the NUPOC office and we tell all of the instructor applicants that we escort to DC to prepare for this.  Some of them will get asked this, it just depends which Engineers they get for their interviews.  It does not have to be challenging, maybe just a basic calculus/physics question.

We teach all applicants to show and explain (with an emphasis on the explaining) all steps for each problem they do, which is kind of like teaching.  So in a sense all applicants do this.
