    Some time ago someone expressed interest in going nuke officer as a pathway to becoming an astronaut. I told him that it was not likely. Clearly I was wrong.

Lt. Cmdr. Kayla Barron, one of the first women to serve on a Navy submarine, is now one step closer to being one of the first women to walk on the Moon.

Hopkins was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Air Force in January 1992, and was selected by NASA to become an astronaut in 2009. He launched from Florida on the SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft on Nov. 15 as a member of NASA’s Crew-1 mission.
