If you like Native American items then Ohio is for you this state is loaded with tons of things to do. Over 300 villiages and towns once stood in Ohio. The state puts out a map on them and you can get in a lot of hiking and arrow hwad hunting ,enjoy.

I think Kings Island north of Cincinnati is closer. Cincinnati has pro sports ( not to the caliber of Chicago of course) and a decent number of museums and music venues. Lots of parks and bicycle trails in the Cincy area including the Loveland trail that runs about 125 miles on the east side of Cincinnati that is part of the rails to trails effort and is paved and nicley maintained. Cincinnati has lots of festivals including Tall Stacks which is just around the corner. The river front in Newport Kentucky just across from Cincy has been built up and offers an aquarium, riverwalk, and some very good restaraunts and comedy club. Try the authentic Irish restaraut on the waterfront good food and atmosphere. The Arnoff theater has Broadway shows most of the year and the Havana Cigar and Martini Club is just around the corner. If you like Jazz there are a few Jazz clubs near 12th and Main. You will be about an hour and a half from Cincy in Portsmouth. Hope this helps, there is a lot more you can discover on your own with the local paper and the Cincinnati magazine. The Portsmouth area is a little depressed with high unemployment if you hear banjo music RUN.

For a nice dinner, the Emmitt House in Waverly (about 20 minutes up the road, if that) is really good.
Motorcycle riding is great down there. Lots of lovely scenery. You're not far from Athens, OH, which is where Hocking Hills State Park is. Lots of beautiful places to go hiking.
2 hours north on St. Rt. 23 is Columbus, OH, home of the Buckeyes! We've also got fine dining, theatre, the Columbus Blue Jackets (NHL) and shopping galore.
There are lots of wineries in the state, if you're into that. In about 4 hours you can be at the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. In about 4 hours you can be in Amish country in NE Ohio.
As for lots to do in Portsmouth, well, you're out of luck, but it's quaint.

Alot of folks live in Chillicothe. Not a bad place, I live there.

This site is hiring RCTs again with plans to remove components in another process facility, prior to their demo. Housing is still pretty much the same from the past years. The Best Western in Piketon and the Ameristay Hotel and Waverly and the HI Express in North Portsmouth are the only realistic hotel options for very temporary housing. Apartments are typically cheap and not hard to find (ranging from $300-800/month.) A lot of the site stays at the Bristol Village in Waverly. It's really a high-end retirement community for 50 and older, but you can get in slightly younger with recommendations.
The problems with Radcon management have quieted down with the old USEC radcon manager taking control. Work-pace is still heavily dictated by union work policies. The requirement for L- and some Q- based on process components, keeps the union in a strong position.
The Emmitt House is gone. El Charo and Dakotas are still the restaurants to visit in Waverly. The Ribber, Ports City Pub and BW3s dominate the food market in Portsmouth. Richie's Market Place has become the sleeper spot to be on Wednesday nights. Close to the site with good food & drink with good prices; it's been hard to beat in the area.

The Piketon Motel isn't too shabby , no kitchenettes though , Ports has problems , Friends don't let friends go there.

Anyone have new info on temp lodging near Portsmouth, preferably Chillicothe area but right around site is ok as well. Set to arrive there May 1st.
