Title: Monitoring logs

What facilities use logs to document workers routine contamination monitoring after exiting a Radiologically Controlled Area?  I am not referring to logs documenting contaminated workers or tools, but the actual, routine monitoring itself.  These logs can either be handwritten by an attendent or electronically generated by ID card.  Security logs of a door open and closing are not pertinent to this scenario.  Does any one have equipement that uses a swipe ID card to enter an automatic counter, ala PCM?

We don't need another administrative thing to track / trend

If they get out - they are clean.....if not - decon 'em and do THAT paperwork!

please never mention an idea like this to an auditor or management.    :D

wail, hail.  iffen aye membe rite, bettis labs usta put freaking auditors at da control pints 'n thay'd time yer frisk.  lessen two minutes wit a gm tube, 'n yinz'd bee starting over.  dawnt no iffen their wuz a log kept tho.

Our dosimeters at Rocky Flats were bar coded with our employee numbers.  We had to swipe our dosimeters through the bar code reader on the PCM's.  The PCM wouldn't start the count until it read our badge.

Is Rocky Flats the only facility that has a program like this?  That is hard to believe.

I agree with the first reply.  Don't even bring it up or management will think it's a good idea and it's not. Negative documentation is a good thing, but not if it puts you in a choke hold.  If it's done manually you're screwed during an outage.  If it's done automatically you're spending bucks (hard to come by these days) to cover the utility in case somebody sues and claims they got out of an RCA contaminated and their nose fell off.

..is Rocky Flats still a facility, or is it "Flat"?..last I was there was in '98, and they were D&D, as fast as they could....Red

Rocky Flats is gone.  It's a wildlife refuge now.
