Title: access ppeal
Post by: ammerman6523 on Oct 28, 2008, 12:40
I was denied unescorted access by the plant psychologist and am waiting for my appeal. It has been almost five months nd I was wondering if anyone had any advice or suggestions to speed up the process.

Find another career because you are SOL. You said or exhibited something that made the shrink ....well, shrink. And because he has a PhD and documented everything to the minutest of detail and you did not, you do not stand a snowball's chance in hell of winning anything. I'm guessing that you are a sub contractor with little or no experience in this industry, and therefore they have nothing invested in you from a recruitment, training and most of all, a legal standpoint. If you are in-house you should know what avenues of recourse are available to you.

You could try suing but that will take years to resolve and by then you could have obtained a degree in a different field. If this has already been 5 months ago, you should know by now that the utility is not going to hear your appeal or is waiting for you to disappear. Sorry for the doom and gloom, but that's the way it is. And in this day and age, the utilities are not going to take a chance on anyone they don't have to, and you unfortunately fall into that category.

If it's been 5 months, I think you already have your answer.

I can't believe you are telling me to give up. That is why these plants get away with this is no one wants to fight their decision. Is this how things are done in the nuke world, when the going gets tough, give up?

Obviously you dont understand the ramifications of failing the psych screening....
also it would appear that you dont have a Nuclear background....that would have been something to fall back on if you fail'd the screening....
You have been given some pretty good advice here..something nobody else has shared with you...
If you dont like the answer, maybe you should not have ask'd the question.

Perhaps this would be a good time to find a professional and see what they say.  The MMPI is not perfect but does point to issues that might be helped. Whether you ever get into nuclear power is a secondary issue. Take care of yourself first and then worry about career

I guess I should have been clearer in my question. I have passed the MMPI, Background check etc., I am not an operator I am a field service tech for the cranes. The psychologist is prejudiced by actions which have taken place over 14 years ago. i have had access o numerous fossil plants in the meantime and have had not even a parking ticket in 11 years. My position will not endanger innocent civilians by "flipping a switch". All I am asking for is my day at the appeal to plead my case.

Capture what you just posted in a well-written single page appeal. Still not likely to win with the plant in question, but might just help the next time...good luck!

Allow me to temper my earlier comments after seeing more details of your situation by saying it does sound like you got shafted by someone in a position of authority at that particular plant. I'm willing to bet psychologists have unofficial quotas just like the cops to show they are doing their job. He decided to pick on you. Are you just trying to get in to that plant because it's home, or are you willing to travel to do this kind of work? If that is the plant you want to work at, get a lawyer and be patient. Or, get proactive and start calling company VP's and ask for an independent review. Let them know you are not going away and are going to fight this. Mention the word "media" and see what happens. And then follow up if they do not meet your expectations. The media loves nuke stories. Depending on how many folks work at this plant, I'd guess there are at least half a dozen folks inside those fences there who have committed the same offense you have only more recently and have been granted access. If that is the case, you have an excellent chance of winning and them some. Only a qualified attorney can request that kind of information. Either way, quit waiting around for this "review", because I seriously doubt it is a formal process. Start working the phones!

If you are willing to travel there are other utilities that might not have the same kind of access requirements. There's plenty of cranes in the sea, my friend. Good Luck

Somewhere OVER the rainbow!

So long as the position was filled the VP ain't gonna give a flying rats @**. And why should they?
He won't win a law suit and we all know it. Give up and find a job in a field where no one cares he might be a nut. I'd rather he not be inside MY fence! Sorry if that's blunt but if a psyche found something wrong with him I'd rather not risk it, regardless of what he claims his story to be.

if ya passed all those segments 'n wiped out the interview with the shrink i would ask why you were talking with a psych?  is this common these days in the plants?   when i did plants, ya saw da shrink when there was a problem with sum thing like the mmpi.  of coarse, if ya are a field tech, was this yer first nuke or yer last?  have ya gone to another nuke or does yer employer want to keep you out of the nukes now?  if so, is this having a detrimental effect on your earnings?
knot trying to put pressure on, but these are questions yer gonna have to answer someware along the way, especially if you pursue any appeal or legal action.  yer lawyer will be the first one to ask ya these questions, and about 25 more.

You candid however misinformed opinion furthers my contention that one person should not have the final decision affecting anothers career.
