Title: Detector used with old E-520 and E-530s
Post by: SCMasterchef on Oct 05, 2011, 03:50
I am looking for the official name of a probe, sometimes called a peanut probe, that was used with E-520s and E-530s.  It had a slide that shielded the beta/gamma detector and had a small slot exposing the detector under the slide.  The probe was approximately 5 to 6 inches long, black in color.

That would be the venerable HP-270 probe. Prior to March, I knew of two or three places that had multiple units and had planned to buy a couple more for my collection of survey meters. At this point, they be rare as hen's teeth, though luckily our loss is the gain for folks doing the good work cleaning up Japan...

HydroDave,

Thanks for the information on the HP-270 probe.  I am at a southeast plant who still uses this detector for one of their instruments but the I&C HP did not know the name of it.  Thanks it helps me complete my task analysis on the subject matter.

Glad to help. If someone wanted to be a real 'donkey apparatus', they should ask how he knows the meter and probe are calibrated to each other if y'all cant verify the probe ID or serial number  :P
