I was recently hired to start in June, and have some questions about in-processing and the PHQ forms. I tried a pot brownie once; should I answer yes to the drug question on the PHQ form or just say I've never possessed any illegal drugs? Also, does anyone know what types of questions they will ask previous employers? Thanks.

Everything. Confess now, avoid the rush!TM

Well if you answer yes you will be introduced to more paperwork and hurdles to go through and possibly be denied based on how recent it was. If you answer no, and they find out then you will be denied. So I'm not really going to give you a clear answer as I think some common sense will prevail. As for your former employers they will simply verify dates you worked, drug alcohol questions (so if you failed a drug test for that brownie it would be safe to say list it), reason for leaving, if you are eligible for rehire and ask any other negative info they may have.
good luck

Thanks for the reply. Do you know what type of drug test is common?

It catches everything. Worried?

Yes, drug tests are common.
-
It is a standard DOT test. 5 panel. But unless you just ate that pot brownie last night you should be good right? lol!
-
Do you know if a hair follicle test is typical or usually just a urine test?
-
Maybe nuclear isn't your best route. :-X
-
Yeah...if you are worried about passing a hair follicle test I would say maybe nuclear isn't your best option.
-
Is there anyone who can give me an answer instead of stupid remarks? I'm asking if they usually do a urine test or if hair tests are common

Oh how cute. The only stupid remarks (sic) I see are from your account.

Why does it matter?
Either you partake of illegal, illicit or unprescribed drugs or you do not,...
You either fear the drug test or you do not,...
You either fear the truth or you do not,...
Regardless of the test,...regardless of the truth,...
No one here will be part of gaming the system,...

I'm stupid and I'm in the nuclear business, just like the rest of ya. No hair follicles

I already answered the question. If you don't know what a 5 panel test is then simply google it. Search "DOT Drug Testing" that may help.
-
I am gonna go out on a limb and say it might have been more than one incident with pot and/or pot brownies...

Yes sir, now you know how we feel with the spoonfeed generation that comes for their snowflake feeding.
It's also why I posted what I did.

Yep. No doubt.
Anyone want this poster working at their plant?!?!?!?!?!? I sure don't.

It kind of pisses me off that I went through this whole ordeal at meps about how if I had ever gotten suspended or wrote up (in high school) I wouldn't even have a chance at going nuke, when this dude is eating pot brownies and might have a chance. Where the hell is the justice in that.

Well in-processing has long been a sore spot for the navy, commercial utilities and other industries. Not to mention current employees. We sometimes shake our head at how stupid folks can be,,, and sometimes we almost blow a gasket when they come here for help to beat the system instead of cleaning up their act. Don't worry though, I mean take heart, they eventually get fired. Remember, they ain't smart. They're doing drugs.
Hopefully, they don't cause something like ANO http://www.simplyinfo.org/?p=10122 before they get caught.
Glad it upsets you too.

Oh my gosh that was terrible. Definitely have to remember their families in your prayers.

You may consider this a stupid remark BUT, if you have reason to worry about passing a drug test, WE the people that work in the industry really do not want you in the industry. We treasure our lives, our families lives, and the Public too much to want people that are not willing to clean up their act and be responsible adults working beside us.
That does not mean you would never be accepted. It means clean up your act and prove yourself and people will welcome you into the industry.
Soap box placed back in storage. Thanks for your patients.

Sorry......Some days the brain and the fingers are not in sync with each other. Although maybe I am the patient.

Please don't be sorry. I do the same things. It was meant as light humor. No offense was meant toward you. Just the lighter side,,, that we are forbidden from using at work these days.
;D

Not all plants are doing so and very few at the moment, but as of 2012 Comanche Peak Nuclear is doing hair follicle testing, and how that works is, they cut a hair right above the hair shaft a inch and a half and it goes back 90 days, it takes anywhere from 5-10 days for the drug or illegal substance to attach to hair shaft, beware recreational users, its a process of elimination, the economy is not getting any better, when they get this thing down to DNA test, folks you are not going to get away with jank.

Do you have proof of that? I highly doubt they are doing hair follicle testing considering they are mandated to DOT testing by the NRC. I will find out but I don't believe this to be very true
-
Dont believe me, then sign up for the next outage at comanche and make sure you spleef up a blunt or two a month before your processing start date and you will find out, I have worked several outages there in 2011, and worked with a fella that I worked with at catawba and he gave me the soup on that, and correction on my part, 2013 outage.

Still isn't true. If it were true the NRC would have to publish a procedure for the collectors to follow -- and well there isn't one out there.

Never publish on some website you tasted anything. Some states now allow us of pot; yet is it illegal still federally. If you used some in the distant past and there is no evidence of it, why bring it up if you want to be in this industry?
