Title: PMI Certifications
Post by: Ksheed on Feb 18, 2014, 09:25
I am curious as to how many people on this forum have taken a certification test through PMI (Project Management Institute), whether it is the PMP (Project Management Professional) or CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management) test, and what their experiences with it are.

It is becoming more common to see PMP certification as a requirement or preference on job postings for project managers. I know most of the members on here have a background in RP/HP or Operations, but I am hoping that there may be some project team members on here who have experience with or are members of PMI.

I think this may be an item that deserves more attention. Every other type of exam seems to be covered on here with experience and practice exams.

I have my PMP.  I considered the certification test to be verydifficult.

Just for comparisions sake, I consider myself to be quite good at schoolwork and testing.  Top 10% of my NPS class, 95ish average for License Class, BSNET.  I've worked NLO, RO, System Engineering (SE and Supv) and Scheduling (inc Supv) and have Project Management experience.

I took a 'PMP Bootcamp' class that was 40 hours over two weekends before I took the test.  It was quite expensive but worth the coin to me as neither the test nor the material is very straighforward and I am sure that I would not have passed without the class.  It's just some really obtuse stuff.

i took a course in project management which was purported a prep for the p.m.p test. i didn't take the test as i didn't think the course presented sufficient material. that, and the company which employed me would knot use me as a p.m. since aye didn't fit their p.m. profile.
