First read about it in 1990 in Jacob Shapiro's Radiation Protection. I'd say every person getting a health physics/radiation safety degree today either reads it or has some professor droll on about it.  That said, it's good that it was published in this well-read publication since the general public knows nothing of it.  Now if they'll just do a similar article to educate the public, specifically frequent flyers, on their dose in commercial air flights :D.

Air Force has dose reconstruction going on for high-flyers.  Just a matter of time before commercial pilots and stewardesses put in cancer claims.  It's one big lawyer-driven payday.

IIRC the NIH tried to make them occupational exposure workers once upon a time,...

their union resisted due to limits on flight hours, ergo lower wages, ergo lower dues receipts,...
