Title: Am I getting screwed?
Post by: seankattaway on Dec 04, 2017, 02:38
I want to become a Navy Nuke. I scored a 94 on the Asvab but I had to get a few waivers for some F's in math my senior year. My recruiter is telling me that first I have to pick a different rate and then they will reclassify me later because I have to wait for approval of my waivers and such. Is this true??

My experience is, which is over 40 years gone nigh, you are pretty much stuck with what you signed up for. The Navy is a bunch of bureaucrats that are programmed to nothings according to procedure. If it is not SOP, then it requires special processing. And I'm sorry to say this, but in the military, you are not special, not even if your name is Forest Gump. My advice is "sign up only for what you want, 'cuz there are no redo(s)."

ps You could be waiting for "approval of waivers" for a long time, and they may never be approved. We are sorry Mr. Kattaway, but your waives are not approved so you can be a deck ape or a mess cook, but you will not have time to put your hands on your ass and wait. thank you for your service. You can get 10% off at Lowes, Home Depot, 99Restaurants, and other participating merchants.

Remember the only thing the navy must honor is what is in the contract. If you sign up for another rate, you might get swapped to nuke if your waivers are approved, but there's no guarantee.

Did he offer you a cool, refreshing cup of bug juice? At least reverend Jones was offering up Kool Aid. As mentioned - no nuke offer up front, you want to be nuke, you no sign nutting. Fighter pilots are in high demand. Good luck.
