Title: Advancement
Post by: emruss on Mar 16, 2006, 03:42
So, I have another question......

What kind of advancement opportunities exsist in the operator field?  What do you do next after SRO?  Is that pretty much the end of the line, or are there other paths for promotion beyond that?

Usually SRO via being a Shift Manager is a preferred path to Department Head then Plant Manager. That's not always the case but with increased emphasis on Operational Focus it's rapidly becoming the preferred path.

What would be a reasonable time frame for advancement to these levels?  Does the advancement to upper level managemant happen often or you generally in an Oper. position for a long time before the opportunities arrise?

Thanks!

Usually SRO for say 10 to 12 years, 6 to 8 as a Shift Manager, so call it around 20 to 22 years into your career.

Last year I interviewed as a department head at a Utility. I ended up turning it down. I'd been an SRO for 8 years, total time commercial at 14.5 years, Shift Manager for almost 5 years.

I interviewed at another place, made the final two, then withdrew my application because I didn't really like the area.
