Hey everybody,
Just wondering how you came up with your usernames!!! For instance, my last name is Hooker, Hence the username Hooker. I had it Nuclear Hooker, but I guess that was offensive to some of the "professionals"
-
If I have to tell anyone where my user name comes from, I'll exhume Bear Bryant!
(I have too many irons in the fire to enjoy college football appropriately this year, but I realized working out of state how fanatical the rest of the country would consider typical Alabama fan actions.)

I've been living in Austria for a few years now and I couldn't think of anything else to call myself. :o
-
All I had to do was look at my site badge and come up with mine.....
-
I’m a Tarheel thru and thru
-
I was either too stupid or sleep starved and couldn't think of anything else. I guess it keeps me honest.

I really do have llamas

23 years of this business - what else would I be?
Those of you who know me, know my snow white tan makes Edgar Winter look like Lawrence Taylor. So the avatar comes compliments of the pet name,
"Powder," Eric Simon tagged me with circa 1999 @ TMI.
I'd use my real name, Thomas Farrell, but it doesn't have the "color" I could use.
-
After many years of tears, I finally put myself in a secure place with money that I went last year and bought my first 03' Heritage Softail.
-
Mine is the way I usually use to teach people the pronunciation of my last name.
Bierkortte = Beer + Court.
My family actually pronounces it differently, but nobody would ever say it right if I tried to teach them.
-
Mine's the song title of a killer old Van Halen tune.
-
Umm, well I had to come up with something, I like NASCAR (& most every form of racing) , & I couldn't think of anything else. :P
-
I got my name from my Great-grandad when I was 3, with a slap upside the head for not answering him, when I had no idea who he was talking to. Found out after the slap that that was what he was going to call me and have had the name since. So, mine is a family tradition and I'll never forget him as long as others use his name for me with respect as he did to me!!! He was a respectful, loving man. I will never forget him and will try to always keep his memory alive!!!

I sell Longaberger Baskets.....hence, Basketlady.

I registered when I was house at Calvert. I'm sure plenty of folks have heard the term before, I was lucky enough to grab it before someone else. Although I'm no longer house, I like the "handle" so I've kept it.
-
Mike Henry nicknamed me "Heavy Jowls" while we were working at Susquehanna over the years it has evoled to Jowlman.
-
I was stationed on the Gilmore in 74' and one of the guys made up mailboxes for us. My name was too long to fit in the space so he took out the 'ark' and when I saw it, it was phonetically 'first'. I like that! Kept it ever since. I also use 'phurst one' or 'phurstone'
-
Mine came from the boys @ BV beacuse I tend to remember all different kinds of obcsure mindless trivial information that most would forget after they hear it. It comes from the Rain Man movie. So if you need to know the name of the actress who played the old gypsy woman in the original "Wolfman" movie PM me.
-
I came up with mine from the Limp Bizkit song "Nookie" that was popular at the time. He "did it all for the nookie", and I did it all for the NUKIE. ;)
-
Well I don't think mine is too hard to guess my job/my profession. Simple to think up.
-
RCLCPO stands for Reactor Control division Leading Chief Petty Officer, my title while on the USS Chicago, SSN721. All who know me know that 4 shots of espresso with 4 shots of hot water makes the best cup of coffee....

Its a multiple pun. dark matter refers to the missing mass of the universe, proposed answers are W.I.M.P.s or MACHOS. (look it up at an astrophysics site). I also like Sci-fi (can't you guess that one?) And of course with most of my working having been a Nuclear Nomad Merc. the Bobba Fett Avatar fits right in. I have a sense of humor (no longer an asset at most utilities),
Update on dark matter theory: now the astrophysics say there are dense dark matter balls to explain missing mass and gravity effects. (heh, heh, I could'of tol em that.)

Greengoo is my avatar. I got it from a computer game series that I keep on an old 486 just for historical sake(and it's fun). The game series is the DOOM series from I.D. Software. I used to love putting in the god mode codes and wandering through the green radioactive goo. There you have the reason right there, put the green and the goo together and you get me, greengoo.

Mine is a story that requires some explaining. I am orignally from Canada, and being Canadian a popular vacation spot is Cuba. One of my best friends and his buddy went down to Cuba and met up with a couple of guys from Malta.
A few days go by and one of the Maltese guys keeps disappearing a few times a day for around an hour or so each time. Further observance by my buddy showed that he was disappearing with a "professional" companion.
My buddy finally questions our "active" participant's friend regarding what is the story with our hero.
His answer was that his friend is an attentive husband at home, has wonderful children and a loving wife, but when he travels he is like a STARVING DOG.
I figured that when I was leaving Canada to move to the US of A that it would be easy for my buddy to remember an e-mail address that started with starving_dog.
I hope the Radbitch sees this, I can't remember if I told her how this all came about but she knows my username.
Regards all, I have to go protect my home from Hurricane Jeanne.
The Starving Dog

When I was still a squid (In the Navy for you non-squids), I use to drink heavily and raise hell everywhere we went. My buddies told me I was madder than a #&*# house rat! Hence came Damad1!
Now, I drink less but am still crazy, and like to verbally cut on my co workers pretty ruthlessly, so the Character Cartman is a good example.....Also, I only live about 50 miles from the real South Park, Colorado!
-
Well I got my because I am a new deconner well want to be one atleast. ;D
-
COTOB - Church Of The Open Bottle
I frequent this church often, often a refridgerator or nearby snow bank depending on the season.
-
I never would have thought after years of traveling that I would end up being the contract Radiological Engineer in charge of a decommissioning project. Thats how I came by mine. The past seven years is the longest I have ever been in one location my entire adult life (some would question if I have reached adulthood, but that is another discussion). Southeast Michigan is pleasant in the summer but when the leaves fall, it isn't very pretty ;)

My parents gave it to me! I use my real name so some of my ex roadmate friends know who I am and can get in touch! Have reconnected with quite a few! Thanks Mike for making this possible! ;D Also I've been told that I'm an opinianated _ss, and bye the looks of my Karma, maybe I am! For those who can see the clue and remember her. I'm her bear
-
I used to participate in "extracurricular" activities during my college days. *cough*, and it's my first username. Hence "prime". Besides...."King of Crunk" was already taken by my avatar here.
-
Short for Beta_effective...This avatar is an obvious reference to reactor physics, and was originally used for online play in Starsiege. In its shortened form it is the avatar I use during online play in Mechwarrior Mercanaries...I have been asked what a Beta_effect is online and I reply "skin burns."
-
Well mine is actually quite simple. i work in a German npp "Kernwerker" is the rough translation of nukeworker.
-
I have an ol' dodge. A '52, as a matter of fact. Check out the picture. Purty cute, huh?
-
Got my handle back in 1980 at Surry working the turbine bldg during a genny replacement, I had the hots for a young gal named Becky C. and since I was trying to impress her all the time, she and Chuck Foltz(i think) labeled me with the Turbine Cowboy nickname and it stuck.
-
Gee, I'm not sure? Let me look at my security badge, oh yea, my folks had to claim me because they knew no one else would. I use my own name so when I say something stupid (most times) everyone knows who it's comming from, I like to be straight up about my opinions. Also this is a great way for folks to find me.
-
Well I'm a Redneck from Colorado and I build and work on computers as my hobbie so my kids would introduce me to thier friends as "The RedNeck Nerd"
So RNN it is.
-
Picked up mine in the Navy, already gray haired in boot camp & a father. Many only know me by that, or some variation..
-
got mine ona ceebee radio a little while ago. the story of that is on anudder thread around here somewhere.
-
wow...all these cool stories and all i can say is mine came from smashed up computer terminology when cobbling a screename together that wasnt taken when i first got online back in the old days of dial up
cpu was taken, central_processing_unit was too long, thus leave the c alone, make processor pross and leave u alone and thus became "Cprossu"
later my friends shortened it to "Cpro" when in chatrooms or playing games siince i knew so much about computers.
-
Well I have been in the HP field and/or Shipping Hazardous Material for over 30 years now, So Mr.Hazmat just fits.

Mine comes courtesy of a buddy I have up hear at the Rock. Originally he'd only call me "Junior" (and still does at times) - which got pretty annoying after, oh, the first time. Then of course we got into a discussion one day about why my little four-banger 2WD S-10 shouldn't be north of 55 during the winter... "Eight Mile," he said, "you're in the WRONG place." I couldn't very well deny it, since I was, after all, at the Rock. The Eight Mile nick was a reach to come to... consider the fact that the Marshall Mathers movie, Eight Mile, was released not too long before I started working here, and also consider the fact that evidently he thinks that anything near Detroit must be around Eight Mile Rd. (even Trenton, a good 20-some miles south of Detroit.)
Ah, well, must be all those days at deer camp - da beer makes him forget that there's a whole lot of area south of Eight Mile.
-
My friends used to call me "Daniels'an", as in The Karate Kid.. No. I don't do karate, but it was better than "Spider-Dan", the name I aquired in 5th grade because a substitute teacher didn't know my name, but saw that I was wearing a Spiderman tee. I shortened it to Danielson.. 13 is.. Just a cool number. And FX came from a username I use in gaming (Diablo II and such) which used to be grafexfx (graphics effects ;) ), but is now grafexmaster... Yeah. Heh.
-
I hope the Radbitch sees this, I can't remember if I told her how this all came about but she knows my username.
Always wondered SD.

Well...First off everyone has seen the film Dr. Strangelove, which I love Kubrick's work. Next I worked on Nuclear Missile's in the Navy, when asked if I could push the button I replied "I'd nukem twice sir." Which people in the navy would know they worry about people like that. Now I have been out for awhile and work in Nuclear Pharmaceuticals, were I am a HPT and Nuclear Bio-Medical Electronics Calibration Specialist. Most of my fellow HPT and HPS are former Nukes in the navy working on reactors, so I am the odd ball of the bunch. I also seem to be the only one working on achieving my doctrine some day (Quantum Physics) and currently working on my BS in EE. Plus I realy don't mind Global Thermo Nuclear War.
Anyone for a nice game of Tic-Tac-Toe
-

We receive, survey and bury decommissioned facility construction debris (Think Rocky Flats), medical waste, mixed waste, even soil from many generators. And if Nevada quits fighting it, spent fuel rods from above ground storage. Radioactive waste management. That’s us. RadTrashMan…

I got mine from a hobby I love to do. After a while my love of Scuba diving became a teaching love also. owsi stands for open water scuba instructor and the number is what was assigned by PADI.
-
My name is from when I used to play in the SCA Midieval Group. I new I would be the one and only. ;D
-
My name comes from a simple fact. I play ice hockey and am a goalie. Something to be said for getting hit by a piece of rubber flying at you at ~80-90 mph on average >:(. Of course I used to play for a team named the Storm and the rest is history.
Cheers

I guess 25 years on the road, and a member of the 30rem club.

A bastardization of my last name (Pezzillo) turned nick name.

-
Well ... I was at an outage at Fermi and Patty Apker was sitting next to me in training. She made some comment about my hair and asked what I put in it to make it look the way it looked. I answered "Alberto V05" she laughed her butt off. I guess I was a little obsessed with the doo for a decade or two there. But, the next day she and several other fems on site began to refer to me as "Hairdude" and it stuck. Go figure.
-
well mine comes from the fact that i grew up in minnesota rooting fo the vikings, hence the name vikingfan !

I shortened it. It was actually IncredibleHulkcomb....a play on my name. Ray Thompson hung it on me, and it's been perpetuated by The Atomic Punk.
-
first initial is s. last name is boudreaux
-
The name "highradsnake" is rather easy to decipher. "Snake" is my nickname from my "crew" back in SW Pa. in the late 80's. The "high rad" part is from the mid to late 90's when an 18.1 senior assigned to balance of plant duties was not much more than a high radiation escort for any work group needing access to the area. I know that I'm making a generalization but I had more responsibilities as a new junior than I do now as a 3.1 senior. I understand that this is the way it is. :P
-
I came up with this username to make fun of the people who think overclocking will make up for user error.
I expected a lot more real names since big brother already knows all.
-
;) Well, my nick name is Squirly and I taught aerobics, hence Aerosquirl since Squirlbics and Squirlaero didn't sound to good. I do get asked if the name means the flying squirl, Nope but flying down the road with wind in my hair, watch out you road rats. 8)

I've had mine so long I can barely remember.. lot's of folks never knew me by any other name, even after years working together... (A-Punk, I think you only learned my real name after you became my site coord wasn't it?)...
but the truth is, back in the 70s i had a supervisor whose name i always misstated...
when he asked me why, i just said he looked like a 'bob' to me...
so he decided i looked like a 'gonzo'... somehow it stuck..
in one instance it actually could've been useful.. in the late 90s when hunter thompson's book made a comeback, i walked into the front of pokey's computer store and asked for him. the young gal at the front desk asked who was asking and i said 'gonzo'... i guess she'd been reading thompson's book cuz she got a wide eyed look and asked if i was hunter thompson.... i don't know, maybe if i'd lied i could've got lucky.....
-
(A-Punk, I think you only learned my real name after you became my site coord wasn't it?)...
That's not true, back in '91 when Ted Maine and myself were whipping boy juniors, he says to me, "Hey, we're on (insert your real name here)'s crew". To which I replied, "WHO?". "Gonzo!" "OH! Cool!" Little did I know what I was getting myself into. ;^)
BTW, don't forget to feed the mice for my wife. :^)
-
BTW, don't forget to feed the mice for my wife. :^)
actually, i can't cuz since her shoes have been gone they've stopped coming into the trailer... but we were seeing alot of small spiders dropping down out of the ceiling's air ducts, at least they were until the cold weather hits us... there's just something about a doe site....
-
Nickname from a small circle of friends at SONGS circa 1997. I am not a cartoon super hero fan but the name has always brought back some fond memories so I went with it. 8)
-
Several years ago when I joined Nukeworker I couldn't decide on a nickname. Radbitch was taken and there were a lot of 'Rad' names already in use. My husband, who is also in Rad Protection, was looking over my shoulder as I logged in and said, "How about fluxmama?" We both laughed hysterically and he dared me to use it. End of story.
-
Parents gave it to me.

Shots of tequila, history books and submarine background..... oh yeah... rum and beer too

Ex-Navy ET = Ex-Navy RO...∆ Rho or δρ = change in reactivity. I was supposed to know at all times.
Now for something entirely different. I wish I could remember the Rod Height song (sang to Raw Hide) we made up in HTFF class...
Something like:
Boiling, boiling, boiling...boiling, boiling, boiling...keep those nuclides boiling -- rod height. My mind's calculating the xenon we're creating and sadly, that's all I can remember. :-\
Anyway, back on topic...boring name.
-
I was filling out the forms and trying to think of a name. Just then, I looked over at the fish tank "Guppy" came to mind. My real name is Greg McDonald if anyone is out there looking for me. I tried to change my screen name once but it seems impossible.
-
I worked as staff at the S3G prototype in New York for the Navy when we began final destructive testing and decommissioning. By the time we had destaffed I was the last one left from the crew. I was the S3G Last Man Standing while I finished my tour with the staff at MARF next door. So S3GLMS

OK, the new one relates to my priorities - Dad first, at the house with the kids. :)
Also I am a house tech, after years on the road... ;)

Well i use twinmom (or variations of it) as a user name on just about everything (please dont try and hack my bank account...there aint any money in there anyways)...cause i have twins. I added the navy part cause they are in the navy now...guess it is not that original but it works and most people can figure it out....but quite a few think i am in the navy and a twin and a mom...but thats ok to i guess.

After 22 years in the Navy, I am known as a Lifer. So I spelled out Navy Lifer as if it were my liscense plate. Some people however, think I'm a Navigator because of the Nav part. This is clearly not true. I was a Weapons Officer and proud of it. If you check out my summary page, it shows my sex as male so I couldn't have been a Navigator. :)
X (Who knows what this means)

Google it!
ISOCS

Well first, I took the square root of my age and used the numbers and correlated that to the letters of the chinese alphabet. Using my secret spy decoder ring I got out of a craker jack box when I was five I decoded the 18th word on every page of the book "Angels and Demons" by Mike Brown. I transleted the Chinese to english and using the letters from that and from the decoded book I wrote all the letters on individual pieces of paper and put that into a bingo cage and turned the crank. At this time I realized that it was becoming to much work so I decided to go with the first motorcycle I owned a 98' Buell S1 White Lightning. The other formula was just not working out to well... kept coming up with jiberish.

St. Raphael
The name of this archangel (Raphael = "God has healed") Raphael (Standard Hebrew רפאל, "God has healed", "God Heals", "God, Please Heal", and many other combinations of the two words, Arabic: Israfil, اسرافيل) is the name of an archangel of Judaism, Christianity and Islam, who performs all manner of healing. The Hebrew word for a doctor of medicine is Rophe connected to the same root word as Raphael.
Of seven archangels in the angelology of post-Exilic Judaism, only Michael, mentioned as archangel (Daniel 12:1) and Gabriel are mentioned by name in the scriptures that came to be accepted as canonical by all Christians. Raphael is mentioned by name in the Book of Tobit, which is accepted as canonical by Catholics and Orthodox. Four others, however, are named in the 2nd century BC Book of Enoch (chapter xxi): Uriel, Raguel, Sariel, and Jarahmeel.

private joke with a friend
Then there is the story about how Smart People above got his screen name. He got that from a story I shared with him, about an Experience I had passing through Tennessee. I stopped at a fireworks stand, so that I could stretch my legs. Fireworks are illegal in my state, and I was a young man, very interested in making things go boom.
The proprietor of the fireworks establishment was an older southern man, with a typical Tennessee accent. He was as interested in me, as I was the fireworks. He asked questions about my education, and was surprised to hear that I had graduated High School. He was very interested to know that I worked in the nuclear industry. He confided in me that he had only completed the 3rd grade. Then he said; I like being around smart people, thats how I learn things.
It gets better.
He followed me around the store, explaining to me what the various fireworks did, as I was unfamiliar with the forbidden fruit. When the last couple left the store, and the door closed behind them, the man lifts up the skirt on a table to reveal some hidden fireworks below. He tells me that they are illegal fireworks, but that hell sell them to me. I asked him why they were illegal, and he replies that they blow up in peoples hands. Really?? I graciously passed on his offer.

Mine is a Dave Matthews song.........needless to say I'm a big fan. I have to admit that I've been toying with the idea of changing it to McLovin! If you haven't seen Superbad yet, you're missing out. Those of you that have seen it know why it's funny.

Too Funny! If it's not taken yet you should TOTALLY switch to McLovin. Hilarious!

And here I thought "number41" was from Ben Hur, when Quintus Arinius says to Judah Ben-Hur (Charlton Heston)
" your eyes are full of hate, number 41....hate is good, it keeps a man alive, and gives him strength"
It should be the plant motto in at least 1 plant in Region IV ;)
-
nukerecruiter, do you know how to change a name? I'm thinking of "McLovin-formerly number41" but that might be too long. Anyway..... :D And HydroDave63, I haven't seen Ben Hur in a while, even though it's quite a few years before my time! What part is that in? I might have to agree with Heston, too! Hate is driving me to do a lot of (good) things these days.

Go to your profile and select 'Account Related Information' from the menu at the left. Change your name.

Mine is not very original and it came from my dad. I have a pet peeve about hiding behind a fake name. When I say something about someone (good or bad) I want them to know it was me. Also, it was a slow day :-[ for me that year.

Mclovin he was awesome and he finally gets some for about 2 seconds.I hope you have better luck

I had to look it up so for those of you like me:
Ono·mato·poeia (än′ō mat′ō pē′ə, -mät′-)
noun
formation of a word by imitating the natural sound associated with the object or action involved; echoism (Ex.: tinkle, buzz, chickadee, etc.)
the use of words whose sounds reinforce their meaning or tone, as in poetry
Etymology: LL < Gr onomatopoiia < onoma (gen. onomatos), name + poiein, to make: see poet

Hmm complex question
mine has several answers beginning with the second plant I worked at and the two House mouses walked up on an unshielded transfer tube as a "Spent Fuel" assembly passed by :o :o :o
over time I have also had the pleasure of dealing with various pieces of "Spent Fuel" debris
and lastly, if a "Spent Fuel" assembly has feeling they would have to be exactly like mine after 30 years in the biz........dang near burnt out !!!!!! ;D
May be time for a change like what the cute recruter lady does ;)

I can't believe I didn't answer this sooner... A Wraith is an Evil-tempered ghost. In this case, One that also works as a Rad-tech! ;D Also a reference to the fate of the 9 kings of men consumed by evil power in Tolkiens "Lord of the Rings" ;)

Well lets see.
Once upon a time, before I was married and had a kid, I used to have a nice little 1965 Ford Mustang coupe. She was painted blue with white racing stripes. Had a nice little V8 in her and horsepower to boot. Decided to give her a name. Her name was "Precious".

I got mine from working in brazil and getting paid 11 for 12 hours. The best part was no one knew anything about it until after they arrived in brazil and was a little late to turn around and back out.
It was funny how bartlett never told anyone about this while they were in the states.
Just my little tribute to them

North Anna, Fall 2007 outage, bungee cord rad rope at equipment hatch, I got distracted and didn't remove the "rope" while the containment coordinator and helpers were pushing out a B-25. The box was almost all the way out the hatch when the "rope" popped over the top just as the containment coordinator raised his head. He got smacked square on the chin by the plastic sign attached to the "rope". Luckily there was only a little bit of blood. My buddy Glenn Travor gave me the name. BTW my first name is John. Glenn drop me a line some time.

Well, for those of you who know something about my current situation, here is my explination:
01, for one strike against me now, also the year I graduated HS,
Changeup, because I like baseball, and it represents the changes that I am making in my life after my little problem. I used to just do whatever I felt like, and ran through life without looking where I was going, like a fastball. Now I am doing the oposite, thus, a changeup. Also, Baseball is my new hobby to take the place of my old, destructive (on a personal level) "hobby."
