I recently retired from a DOE facility and I'm interested in doing some short-term commercial power outage HP work. It's been almost thirty years since I worked commercial. Insight on where to start is appreciated. Thanks, Randy Redmond

What's up, BossLady said you were looking forward to retirement. Boredom set in? 8)

May want to buy some new toys. Spending too much on honey-do's and need some rest. Looking at working an outage or two each year while my body holds up :-)

I fully understand the Honey-Do's and new toy's I am looking into a subcompact tractor for the property to do some of those Honey-Do's. It ain't like it use to be on the road when we worked IP-3 I still remember the expeditions that you led us on in NYC.

WOW! 30 years. I don't know what commercial plants that you worked back then, but the people that you worked with may be retired, relocated, or moved into management. BHI and DZ Atlantic are the big contractor players, but there are some other companies as well. You can go to the Employers list on this website and call. They will tell you what you need. Commercial Nuclear has change a lot in 30 years. Deregulation, tighter security, fitness for duty, documented training, NE exam, performance goals, performance bonuses, shorter outages, dry fuel storage, etc. Outages are much more intense, but I have worked with techs in their 60s and 70s who were quite capable of keeping up. Congress changed the tax laws as well. Good luck.
-
Randy- You will do fine getting back in. The pay is still about the same as when you left (maybe worse in comparison). I think this fall is busy and should be plenty opportunities. I think I will just stay on the couch this fall. Good luck.

Hmmmm... it has been awhile 30 years and thousands of people. I went to a sub reunion and it took a long time to remember who and what with all the strange faces I no longer recognized but spent a lot of time with many years ago.

The memory is the second thing to go...
I would say the last place I worked with Randy was Calvert Cliffs (or was it Oconee?) but that would probably be wrong, too.

Roger, we worked with Randy at Oconee in 81 & 82.

So was I in part about Randy and you emphasis on poor memory.

Getting way off topic, Randy I suggest you call Eric Bartlett for some straight skinny.

OK back off topic [OT]
Just ran into this article I clearly am not one of those helped as I drink at least a pot a day.
Caffeine has positive effect on memory, Johns Hopkins researchers say

Back on topic I am not endorsing Bartlett but they have most of the contracts I forgot to list the number (memory thing again) 800-225-0385.

So my memory is half good. Better than I expected.

"81 & 82"? Did you guys use Wooden Dosimeters back in those years?

"81 & 82"? Did you guys use Wooden Dosimeters back in those years?
No. They came along after that. We were using film. When self-readers came along we used Polaroid film. In 74 & 75 we just used chicken bones and the I Ching.
Keep it up and I will beat you with my cane.
-
dosimeters? Are you sure we used those Roger. You ever wonder what your life time exposure really is?

Wooden dosimeters were for those who couldn't do the math fast enough to jump gennies at 60R/hr.
I can't remember working with Randy, but welcome back my friend.

Thank God they stopped the 5N-18 for Dose. I would have been out of work a long time ago.

I was pretty sure it was both after giving it more thought... and Oconee was after Calvert so...

If you're interested in contract work overseas, I can get you connected - depending on what type of work you've done, roles you have held, etc.
If you want to focus on domestic outage work, I've worked at DZ and a big chunk of BHI's recruiting team are former coworkers of mine as well. If nothing else, I can email your resume over to their recruiters.
Shoot me a message on here, or send me an email and I'll see what I can do to help you out.
