Politicians do not like SAFSTOR,...

SAFSTOR is absolutely legal,...

there is no legal compulsion to DECON,...

SAFSTOR is Exelon semaphore to the Commonwealth,...

"the politicos really, really want to throw clean credits at the nukes or the nukes will throw 'waste dump' shade at the politicos",...

A big part of this is the political play. Some of the opponents of the state bills to have suggested that the economical impact is overstated because the employee numbers would still be very high for decommissioning. Exelon was not so subtly reminding them that they don't have to, and don't plan to, decommission the site for decades. They really wanted that "50 full-time employees in 2022" to hit home for legislators.

All depends on if they get enough state legislators to buy into it. Based on the word from corporate, they feel they have a good chance. Based on the reluctance of the chairman of the house committee to support it, sounds like a toss up. That's just my humble opinion. I'll let you know more after they bus us to the capitol.

The capitol cronies actually came up to the top decile performing Kewaunee Station. These personnel were coffee makers/scribes/note jotters of any body with any clout. We knew we were doomed. Few years later we was strollin at the bottom of the pool in single PCs !! We were so close to modesties/shoe covers - thwarted by budget constraints. Life outside the rocks is good.
