Title: L Clearance and DUI
Post by: Beautis on Aug 29, 2007, 12:01
Was offerered position at NRC, got a DUI a few weeks later( a really stupid mistake, not a pattern or habit), no other criminal charges, was honest on Security paperwork...not moving through the system.
I will not be found "guilty" of the charges, but the worst case scenario is a fine and classes mandated by the state. The records are then expunged by the state. Great possibility of dismissal of all charges at the pre-lim.
What are my chances of getting 'Hired"?

Do you mean at NRC regulated facility or do you mean working for the NRC? I would say your odds are poor if you are actually working for the NRC.

I'm confused about the "L" clearance. NRC regulated facilities are typically "unescorted access", whereas DOE facilities have "L" and "Q" levels of clearance (as I understand it to be).
From personal experience, I applied for a position at an NRC licensed facility two years after being convicted of a DUI, noted it on my employment application, and was still hired and granted unescorted access.
Honestly? I don't think you helped yourself any by getting that DUI after you were offered a position. It'll probably give them second thoughts about hiring you.
