Title: Options for a nuke who's been out for 18 years
Post by: bullseyerepairs on May 28, 2008, 10:24
I am currently trying to get back in to the nuclear industry.  I'm living in Albuquerque and it seems pretty difficult to find anything here.  Does anyone have any ideas?  I spent 9 years as a nuke mm playing around with submarines.

I feel for you!  I did my first outage after being out for 18 years too.  I was a little rusty and came in as a Jr. because of that and things have changed but not the job coverage or the people.  In ways it was like just another outage.  Go for it!

Thanks for the help.  I'm looking all over the place out west right now.

I just started as an ops trainee, and I have a classmate that did 10 as an EM/ss from 78-88.  He hasn't been doing anything remotely nuclear or power related for the 20 years since he got out.

I would say that any avenue you choose is possible!

Likewise.  Did my 6, got out in 94 then went to college, currently in automotive industry, starting at a nuc plant this summer.  should have done it long ago.
