You really have to ask that question? Remember this is the world that grew up with "The China Syndrome" , TMI, and Chernobyl. People are uneducated and scared when it comes to nuclear power. Newsies get this stuff and know it will fly off the shelf because people don't know enough to realize this is a very minor story. All the head line has to do is read "Nuclear submarine has Radioactive Water leak" and viola` you got a hot topic, especially when we are on the verge of the great nuclear renaissance and new plants are starting to be built in people's "back yards".

From the article, in the attached timeline: "17JUL08 USS Houston undergoes routine maintenance at Pearl Harbor. Radioactive water spills on a sailor working outside the submarine after a buildup of leaking water pops a valve." I don't think it was a valve cap. Sounds like a little more than nothing, though it is mostly political, I agree, we are talking about the possibility of undocumented discharges in port, and in port in Japan, where I would like to still be allowed to go.

....Makes me wonder why the ADM is dictating who is making a discharge entry.....that job belongs to RL div anyways. Did the pucker factor come in and everyone all of a sudden not know what to do??
I figure the pucker factor came in when figuring out how to calculate the release, because I don't think anyone knew what the rate of leakage was or the duration.
I am also figuring the discharge log has been dissected by just about everyone in the command and on up to Donny boy.
well the news estimated one gallon on the guy, and obviously it wouldnt be hard to estimate radioactivity based upon a gross count......the guy could give an estimate of how long he got sprayed for...
if i remember the log correctly you can get all your required info based off of that, and make another log entry for anything that might have been back calculated.....but who knows lol
as for the fertilizer, i prefer using cabbage as the comparison....makes for better conversation lol
