Title: New to Nuclear - Opportunities
Post by: nukenewbie4519 on Apr 01, 2010, 02:11
I am new to the commercial nuclear field. I have worked at Cooper and am scheduled for a SHORT 10 days at Comanche Peak.

I have indutrial experience in petro-chemical/refinery (insulator/scaffolding) and the oil/gas industry which includes 'wild well control' with air over hydraulics valves, rigging, and supervision. Additionally, I have 20 years of law enforcement experience with emphasis in investigations.

I 'hired in' as a carpenter's helper at Cooper to get my foot in the door and transferred over to the 'insulators' shortly thereafter. I am going to Comanche Peak as a 'nuke tech' to help with a company for 10 days.

I am interested in getting some 'quals and certifications'. I notice tons of jobs for HS, RP's and such but not the 'trade jobs'.

I like the traveling and would like to stay in the industry.

I am interested in anything that can get me 'qualified' for some of these job postings.

(Craft positions, Technical positions, Safety)

My brother has been in the nuke field for 10+ years and strongly recommends 'refueling'. He stated that he landed a job doing this that provided training for a new nuke worker.

Any suggestions? I have very limited contacts in the industry. (recruiters aren't working out)

Thanks,
