Title: NLO hierarchy comparisons
Post by: 499tarheel on Jul 24, 2010, 04:42
I work at a plant (Carolinas) where the hourly NLO topped out payrate is almost 10% less than the hourly topped out electrician or mechanic.

It seems that because of this and maint. being on dayshift that NLO's constantly bid out to maint. as soon as possible. Nobody ever bids ops from maint. From reading through posts on this site its seems this would be an oddity, so I'm just wondering how common this situation is.

You can PM me also.

Just seems like there would be equal love for ops.

Same here, but all the NLOs have dreams of being plant manager in their eyes, so only one has gone to Maint.

But he is way happier than the NLOs most of the time -  8)

In twenty five plus years, we have had exactly two people from our shop (I&C) go to ops.  One became an SRO and is now an electrical supervisor, and one is still an NLO (though not on shift) and loves it.  In that same time frame we have had over a dozen go the other way, with similar stories for the other shops.
