Hey everyone. I am new to this website and just wanted some advice on a situation I am involved in. I am currently finishing up my RP Tech program at my college. I graduate in May next semester and will go to work for Bartlett. We will do an outage at Browns Ferry plant. I have a question regarding the hiring process. About a month ago i regrettably received a DUI. I was taking a friend home and there happened to be a roadblock on the way. I wasn't sweating it b/c I thought for sure that I was fine. I passed the sobriety test and he still wanted me to blow. I agreed, and wound up blowing a .11. I go to court on the 14th and my lawyer said great possibility of getting it dismissed, due to me never having any sort of background. I have talked to many people working for TVA and called HR for Bartlett and have received basically the same advice. Do not try and cover it up, be honest and explain the situation and everything should be ok. Of course this positive advice still has me worried. It would be a great misfortune if I didnt get hired for such a stupid mistake. Any advice for me would be greatly appreciated, sorry so long just have alot on my mind.

Make sure your lawyer does
everything he/she possibly can to get the charge dismissed or reduced. The industry is becoming less & less forgiving about DUIs & other such issues.

Most importantly, I hope you learned a lesson from this. Drinking and driving could land you in prison for a Felony DUI. So if you are going to do it anyway, make sure you like orange jumpsuits. Probably not what you wanted to hear but it is the way it is these days. As far as a clearance, as long as you are upfront about it, it won't keep you from getting in the first time usually. After the first time though any others will probably end your career. Take care and be safe

No, it wouldn't. Want to know why? You spent all that time writing out all of the excuses such as the roadblock, passing the sobriety walk, etc., but nowhere in that story was the phrase " I was drinking and...".
Any chance of recovering or working in this industry will start with owning up to your actions. Otherwise, there will be plenty of applicants for the outages without DUIs.

Great points! I got focused on the specific question of whether the poster had ruined his chances for a nuclear career...and missed the bigger picture.
Bottom line: Drunk driving laws are there for a reason - to protect the public from drunk drivers & to protect drunk drivers from themselves.
Don't drink & drive.
