Title: Anyone with Ballston spa Shift Eng experience?
Post by: bbksv on Feb 19, 2011, 05:48
I am a JO on a fast attack coming up on shore duty next year. I am exploring my options and thinking about heading to NY to do the 3 year option (so I can do my DH tour and retire)...anyone have any experience as a Shift Eng up there? I came from the Charleston pipeline so I have never even been to NY.

Shoot me your email in PM and I will forward it to a former shift eng friend of mine that did a tour at MARF.

Shift Eng has significantly less responsibility at NY vice MTS.
You will be more responsible for training and military issues but won't have operational authority like the SS does.
If you want better career experience for an ENG tour, IMO you should go to MTS.
NY has a unique culture.
