I'm 27 and I turn 28 in October, I went and spoke with the Navy recruiter about 2 weeks ago, took the practice ASVAB, scored pretty well and they told me that I could be a candidate for the nuclear program, after researching it and doing some thinking it sounds like something I'd really like to do, there is a catch. Aside from my age I also had a previous arrest for Petty Theft nearly 7 years ago, the charges were dismissed after I entered a pretrial diversion program, I'm sure this would affect the likelihood of my receiving an age waiver.
Is there anyone out there who could tell me the likelihood of my being granted a waiver?

Put it in, hope for the best. Theres not much anyone can tell you other then that. your age waiver will be more limiting then your petty theft, for sure. One waiver does not affect the others. they are individual yes or no's. If you get denied a waiver, you can appeal it to some extent.

Now I'm not saying you will, or won't get the waiver. These things are up to the vagaries of the Nuclear gods of NAVSEA08.
That said the arrest, regardless of whether you think you have a clear record or not, could present a problem. Especially since being a Nuke REQUIRES a security clearance. The arrest presents a bit of a problem. In essence the Pretrial diversion program will be looked at by the Navy and by the DoD clearance people as an admission of guilt.
The other thing to consider is that meeting quota isn't exactly a problem right now, there is more supply than the demand (the Navy) requires as far as recruits. They don't need to accept waivers, and from what I hear are being tougher on that front.
That all said, do not lie about it. Put in for the waiver. Hope for the best, but have a back up plan. There are other rates that don't require clearances that you may be eligible for.

Good advice above. Put in for the waivers and see what happens. I'll be 28 in 3 months and graduate Power School in 2 and had to get my share of waivers to get here including an age waiver. It's not impossible, but you will be the "old man" when/if you get here. ;) If you get the chance, enjoy it and take advantage of it. Few people at this command and in this community go through enlisted NPS with the kind of perspective that us "older" guys have. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.
