Title: Secrets about US Submarines Leaked, by the British.
Post by: MacGyver on Apr 18, 2011, 12:43
U.S. Navy Nuclear Submarine Secrets Reportedly Leaked Online (http://www.theblaze.com/stories/u-s-navy-nuclear-submarine-secrets-reportedly-leaked-online/)

Quote
Despite being on of our strongest allies, the British Navy reportedly recently leaked U.S. Navy military submarine secrets online. The mistake was apparently an accident as a result of a glitch in redacting some government documents.

It seems that they have now fixed the error.  Even though it seems that these errors are more and more common.

So, does anyone think that this was out long enough to cause any problems for us?

I hope not of course.  We currently have a Royal Navy officer on board my ship  through some sort of exchange program.  I'll see if he cares to comment.

If he does care to comment, you should have the sense to not post it here.

Cheers,

Want military secrets? Get Jane's book of ships, or planes etc. That is what our boat used to identify foreign vessels.

When you look at the source document it is stamped DECLASSIFIED at the bottom.  In that case why is there any need to redact information in the online version?

Maybe their first mistake was declassifying the document in the first place.

The document was declassified with sections redacted.

Unfortunately whoever did the redacting apparently didn't know that simply changing text attributes doesn't actually change the text and is easily reversed.
