Numerous suppliers in the industry - Bartlett, Penetek and others.  Try taking a look at Nuclear News Buyers Guide or one of the other on-line service/supplier sources.

Regular house paint or that which is acceptable by your target disposal site will do.

The commercial fixative paints, such as Bartlett PBS, work well.  But, if you need something local and fast, consider the fine print on the MSDS for many fixatives.....

Latex paint mixed with acrylic floor wax.  Apply with airless sprayer.

Home Depot carries a brand of spray rubberized coating for tool handles and slip-proofing stairs etc. About 6 bucks a can and sets up like a thin layer of semi-hard rubber. Very durable and comes in many colors.

Seen it (instacoat) used during decomissioning at SONGS U-1 cavity.  Pretty impressive, I'm not sure as to the specifics but seem to remember it was a two part mix with a heated catalyst, not just your run of the mill airless sprayer application!

Excellent work! Fruit flies and other pests could indeed be attracted to some of the more "environmentally friendly" compositions on the market today. Looks like a good reason to use caution with off the shelf products from Home Depot and other non-nuke providers of materials.

Sir:

You can get the material, Contamination Fixative, from:

Prasanna Enterprises,
30/53, Kalaimagal Nagar II Main Road,
Chennai -600097, India

e-mail: gopirs@vsnl.com

I doubt any facility in the US would allow its use without an accompanying MSDS

theyll need an MSDS for transportation purposes to start with unless its classified as a consumer commodity....which I truly truly doubt.

Call T.J. McNamara @ cell 410-441-0166 office 410-620-3373.  He has two products DBC-1400 waterborne encapsulant and ALARA 1146 cavity decon strippable coating.  I have had great sucess with both at Oak Ridge National Lab and Rocky Flats Environmental Technology Site.  Used both for control and decon of large areas > 500k dpm of PU, U, and MAFP.  The cost is not that bad and I never had to reapply.  Good Luck with your search.
