So I ship out in 12 days. Anybody got any last-minute tips or quips?
Boot Camp -> long days, short weeks. As you stand in the cold with snot freezing to your face for a few hours at a time, remember that its temporary.
School -> keep your nose clean and ask for help if you need it. Help others if you don't.
that's about it.
Speaking from very recent experience, send home the form letter with your boot camp mailing address asap. My son shipped on 11/9 and we still don't have his address. >:(
Yes, you are NOT A NUKE in boot camp. Anybody who needs to know it, will know it. The last thing you want to do is tell the other Rickies that you are a nuke.
Even though you might be at a higher pay grade than they are, you don't outrank them in recruit training. For all yo know an E-1 might be giving you orders. Follow them.
Ask the last overnight Fire Watch to get you up 10 minutes early every day. Use this time to get yourself fully squared away and then help out a shipmate if time allows.
Best of luck.
Don't eat the eggs.
Good luck!

This takes a few weeks to get through IIRC. You should have gotten a phone call though.... If you dont get a response in a somewhat timely fashion, You can contact the chaplains at the recruit training command with his name and division (if you know it) to get more information

Relax, don't worry, and quit worrying. Go have fun.

Boys are icky. Never help them field day a fan room....
The navy will dress you and give you everything they think you need.
You WILL think you made a mistake the very first time they get you out of your rack in the morning.
You will get yelled at a lot.
Some of it will seem senseless (it is)
Almost all of your personal goods you bring will be shipped out. Don't bring much
You will hear more BS stories in that short time period than you will ever hear again
Many of people have been through it and made it. It is intended to not be a good time, but before you know it you graduate and move on.

Very true and as he says this too will pass, just go with it.
Break down the individual and build the sailor (soldier/borg)... You will be assimilated!!! [salute]
Anytime someone starts a sentence with "I heard..." you should probably stop listening.

Don't get pregnant,....
ROFL ROFL ROFL ROFL ROFL ROFL ROFL ROFL ROFL ROFL ROFL [Flamer]
No,........seriously,........ [coffee]
One more thing. Think of it like a long camping trip or, even better, like you're training for your favorite sport. It can be exhausting, but a lot of fun. Ignoooorrre the drama. Just have fun.
Oh yeah, drink a lot of water.

LMAO this is the BEST advice here!!
Incorrect. The Don't get Pregnant advice does not apply to this individual.
I must say, my wife was confused as to why I openly laughed twice as the Don't eat the eggs advice was DEAD on too!.
We've long since received the form letter with the mailing address. We've also received his first real letters and phone call.
He says most of boot camp is so repetitive and boring that he looks forward to chow and PT.
I know the OP is now enjoying the "dreadful" first couple of weeks (my son's word). For any others who might come across this post, keep your mouth shut and do exactly what the RDC's tell you to do, not what YOU think they want you to do.
