I am trying to find a formula for "plane sources." I also need the formula for the "transition point" also. Ex-Navy or shipyard workers should know. Any help will be appreciated.

A simple approximation of the dose rate from a plane source based on fractions of an effective radius is as follows:
Determine the effective radius (ER) of the plane.
e.g., 20' X 30' floor yields an ER of about 14'
(r = square root of the area divided by PI)
At distances in the range of contact with the plane and 0.1XER the dose rate is constant
At distances in the range of 0.1XER and 0.7XER the dose rate diminishes in accordance with the line source formula
At distances beyond 0.7XER the dose rate diminishes in accordance with the point source formula.
For the example above, the 0.1XER = 1.4' and the 0.7XER = 9.8'

moodusjack....i tink it's a little more clear to say that yer r=square root of the quotient of the area divided by pi operation..... but then, today is a verrry boring day [smiley=tp.gif]
'n i'm tinkin dat radweasal's "transition point" is the 0.1 &0.7 er points, at least that's where i wuz at before i gots off on the semantics detour.... my bad! ;)
