Title: I took some tests......Now what?
Post by: PossibleNukWorker on Sep 05, 2013, 02:23
Hello All,

I recently was given the opportunity to take/pass the tests needed to gain un-escorted access to Duke Energy & Progress Energy plants. If I wanted to seek employment in a nuclear plant, what would my next step be? Does un-escorted access help me in seeking employment? I just have no idea where to begin.

I plan to do IT work as that is my background.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Normally, the background checks for unescorted access are given after a job is lined up.
Same with pre-employment testing - MASS / POSS / TECH.

You sure that was what you were testing for? What organization / company gave the test? I would ask them...

My current employer is a recycling company. They paid for me to take the tests so that we can go into a plant and remove computers/E-Waste. However that is only contracted for a month.

I'm curious to see if I could advance my technical career in the nuclear world.

If you could find positions in Decon or something really entry level, I think the unescorted access will help you out.  You never know until you try, good luck!

A quick search on the job board right here at Nukeworker.com for IT came up with:
