I'd like to start off and say I'm new to this forum. I have read recent posts on here about advice you guys have given on jobs. I went to school for power plant technology; it was a one year program. The program included a three month internship at a coal power plant. The six months after college I land a career at a coal power plant and I've currently been here almost 2 years, it will be 2 years in January. I am only 21 already making 30/hr. The reason I'm on here is I recently applied at Duke Energy 2 days ago and wanted to know what you guys thought my chances were or advice you had to give. I am applying for the operator learner position, also I've successfully passed the poss/mass test before I got my current job. the position I'm looking at is in NC and I live in WV. Any advice or comments would help thank you.
You may not have passed all the sections required for Nuke...
You'll have to take it again anyway.
I did assume I took a more basic poss/mass test, but my real question was. Do I stand a chance competing against navy nuke expiernce?
That is a stupid question.
Is that a yes or a no that's a tough question for me.
Are you thick in the head?

It'll depend on the plant. Some really like navy nukes, some not as much.
Good luck. :)

There are nuke plants that start entry level operators at less than $30/hr. You'd want to ask yourself why nuke is important to move for a pay cut.
I also know power industry executives that make very good money today without ever having stepped into a nuke plant, and started as coal handlers.
Thank you all for the feedback. I'm just trying to move back towards North Carolina I enjoyed the weather and the environment. a pay cut wouldn't bother me to much I started at 17 here and always wanted to be in nuclear field. Any other ways you guys would know that would help my chances?
