Title: Direct SRO
Post by: sefrick on Jun 15, 2015, 12:14
Hey Folks,

I've been out of the community for quite some time, but I'm ready to jump back into the neutron pool...I heard the water's great! I'm curious if direct SRO opportunities for navy nukes that have separated have become a thing of the past. I was a mechanical operator for 6 years (S5W, S6G and S8G), never qualified Watch Sup, but since separating I achieved a BS in Mechanical Engineering. I know I've seen opportunities in the past for direct SRO with similar qualifications, I was just wondering if they're still out there.

There are direct SRO jobs available, but you do not qualify for direct SRO. The military qualification requirement is experience based, and unfortunately, the degree doesn't make up for the missing piece. In fact, all direct SRO paths are experience based, even paths available to degree holders.

However, you can qualify for NLO. With a degree and desire to be an SRO, you WILL get the opportunity. It can be as little as six months after fully qualifying NLO.

You don't have to take my word for it, see where your qualifications fall on the flowcharts in the document in this thread.

Good luck!
