However, just because a mutation can be caused by other factors than radiation does NOT mean it wasn't caused by radiation in this case. Right?

I think that the article points out that people are quick to jump to conclusions not necessarily supported by facts. The mutations of plants and declining populations would also seem to be an assumed link, it did suffer a massive tidal flood, radiation was not the only contributing factor.

sure, but ALL evolution is mutation based,...
some mutations survive and others do not,...
the causal agents are as varied as the mutations themselves,...
either you embrace mutation and the proceeding evolution,...
or you opt for a static, never changing status quo,...
which is not possible, unless you have figured out how to regulate solar activity, the expansion of the universe, the radioactive decay of the earth's core, et al,....
the fundamental forces driving evolution are unconcerned with man's existence,...
the hubris of man is to put himself before the cart,...
and then to get himself a good paying gig in a not for profit "earth advocate" NGO,...

medical arts triggers mutation,...
chemical engineering triggers mutation,...
nuclear technology triggers mutation,...
any environmental change fomented by man (or otherwise) can and ofttimes will trigger mutation,...
there is always the pure, faultless option of living in caves without fire,...
anything past that carries the full Pandora's box of pros and cons,...

I guess my take on it is that we have to admit there are pros AND cons to everything...even the industry that has made my life such a wonderful, option-filled ride. :)
