Title: Indian Point
Post by: Rerun on Feb 23, 2016, 11:57
This is just plain stupid. I know people from IP and I did an evaluation at IP in 2011. All the people were excellent and the facility is nowhere near an accident waiting to happen.

True I'm sure. But I guarantee you that reg inspectors are wondering why there have been two trit leaks in the last two years - didn't learn from the first one? - and why IP couldn't find the latest leak when the NRC found it in three days. Sounds like no one is that interested.

thirty years ago:

On May 19, 1989, LILCO agreed not to operate the plant in a deal with the state under which most of the $6 billion cost of the unused plant was passed along to Long Island residents. The Long Island Power Authority (LIPA), headed by Richard Kessel, was created in 1986 specifically to buy the plant from LILCO (which it did in 1992). The plant was fully decommissioned in 1994

Incorrect. The reason the NRC was able to find it was they aren't constrained by these things I call procedures. Twice in two years isn't hugely uncommon.
